Delicious in Dungeon: Episode 6 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

I wholeheartedly agree with that, hahaha!!

Romaniablack

I absolutely get that!

Icy

Oh yeah, I can see that - I definitely mentioned the comment's notes in a future reaction I recorded earlier - I was mainly connecting to Berserk when I was reading it - a lot of people would make the excuse that "it was okay because it was medieval times" and that irks me in oh so many ways, so that note harkened me back to those days, hahaha!! It was nothing against you, though, so don't worry about that!

Romaniablack

Yeah I also find the 16 as the age of adulthood icky but as long as people aren’t getting married at that age I think it’s fine. Like in our actual world medieval people would get arranged married at 16 maybe but they would consummate the union till their twenties

Icy

Oh yeah, true, we don't actually know if he wasn't about to say something else originally. But at least he was going to start it with "This". He definitely has that "I'm too old for this shit" energy.

Thank you so much for the kind words and comment! Honestly, the WHOLE feast would have been so much for the two of us, so this worked out really well! Ahh, catfish for lent! ;) Ooohhh an almond milk recipe! Heck yes! Thank you for sharing that! And here I was wondering how it was made! ^^ Definitely saved that medieval cooking website! Thank you! It’s so wild to think of how the peasants were relatively healthy while the vanity of the rich caused them health issues! So many little things to think about from “back in the day,” for sure! I like the idea of the peasants keeping things insanely simple and easy - I respect it! 😀 Also that cockentice video - interesting! My family definitely loves cooking a pig! And Oak Park, IL! I’ve heard of there! But yes, my dad loves to smoke/bbq/grill so we’ve grown up eating a lot of beef and pork (and chicken) as well! I love you sharing those memories, though! That is so fantastic and I love the idea of the socialization and all of that as well! But also, yes, Chilchuck being 29 (allegedly) - I can understand - the crisis! XD Thank you for the comment and kind words! Definitely excited for episodes to come!

Romaniablack

Ahh, thank you for the extra lore! I appreciate it! That works with the age of half-foots in that regard, so that is interesting to know! The “medieval logic” makes me feel a bit icky - let’s just say 25 is the age of brain maturity - that’s what I like to go with, but at least 18 so they’re not minors for the implications-sake. I definitely don’t want to know Marcille or Senshi’s actual ages until the series tells us officially, but thanks for the info and the comment without spoiling! 😀

Romaniablack

Huzzah! I’m catching up slowly but surely from the ice storm, so I hear you! I also agree that the humor in this series is SO good - definitely up my alley! Oohhh, I will have to check out the dub for sure! I haven’t checked out Frieren’s dub, but I have watched some of The Apothecary Diaries and it is good, I agree! Also, I really love that I’ve been introduced to Mimics so thoroughly this last year! 😀Thank you for the comment and kind words! So excited to see where this takes us!

Romaniablack

I don't think it's "confirmed" that he was going to say 29 and stuck with it, but he definitely decided in the end to say 29. We'll see what the show gives us, but I'm going to talk about that translation in a future episode - I still think he's older than 29, but we'll see where it goes. #noneedtoelaborate #trust :D

Romaniablack

Oohhh, alcoholic gummies or “pudding shots” are DANGEROUS! I try to avoid looking up things on YT related to the shows I watch for that spoiler reason! Eek! Look, I just need Kabru and Laios to have conversations. That’s all. KING OF YAOI AND QUEEN OF YURI! YES! And yes, everyone is still supportive of Laios, even when he goofs. I do love the humor of this show as well! Chilchuck is such a fun character; I love the focus on him and honestly each of them - their own perspectives are so fun! Chilchuck, for looking so young, really has to be the watcher over Senshi and Laios! But yeah, the David Tennant accusations are not leaving! Someone noted that about the translations, too, which is such a tease! The way this series really gets into the ecosystem along with the world building is so fascinating and fresh - I love it! Also, I’m glad I’m not the only one that was creeped out by some paintings as a kid. The great-aunt with the American Gothic painting also had a LOT of porcelain dolls and gave me several as a kid – after reading Goosebumps stories, I had to put them as far away from my bed as possible. That is TERRIFYING about the mechanism of those, though! NOPE! On a different note, Marcille with her hair down is so pretty! I love that realism with her hair in the series as well. Also, me with kitchen utensils = clumsy 90% of the time hahaha! I’m glad you appreciate the Irish butter - it’s really been good to use lately! And oh yes, I was letting Huckleberry and Ruby outside during filming when it was warmer, but now that it’s winter, inside they stay…to judge us! Yeah, I definitely am glad I didn’t do the WHOLE meal, because between the two of us, what we had was PLENTY. But yeah, I’ll save that pumpkin soup for another day! I am okay with grapes, but I do like raisins, haha! I’ve only had food poisoning a few times, but after this episode (and the one for this coming week), avoiding it feels like a MUST. The edamame was great! Yeah, I really like cheese, but “American” cheese is just…as a kid, I never questioned it, but once I grew up and my tastes changed. Nope. It’s pretty gross. I can do bread and cheese or cheese and crackers just about any time, though! Ooohhh, thank you for the VA information and the kind words as always!!

Romaniablack

HOW DARE the show not even give us a tease! Hahaha, but thank you for establishing that! I appreciate it and the comment! :D

Romaniablack

Chilchuck was actually honest about his age. The original Japanese line makes only sense if he was really saying "This year I'll turn 29". He wasn't about to start with "Thirty". It would have been better if the subtitles said "This... This year I'll turn 29" instead of "Th... This year I'll turn 29" so it doesn't seem like he suddenly changed what he was aboout to say.

Just some quick comments today - catching up from the holidays a bit still! From last week's snow cone episode, I loved Senshi tossing the actual treasure down the dungeon because it's not edible - hilarious! The humor in this show is great, for sure! Also, with the VA bit from the beginning, I have to say the dub for this show is so, so good. 2024 had three absolutely top-tier, perfect dubs for me - Apothecary Diaries, Frieren, and Delicious in Dungeon. All 10/10s, dubs I love to pieces and pick every time I rewatch! If the dub is average or bad I will avoid it, just to put it out I'm not all-in on dubs, despite how it may sound! But I think one definitely should also try to watch in the original VA to appreciate the show fully (and for a content creator I imagine dubs are almost taboo - the vast majority of people don't like them, except in very rare instances). So yeah, while you don't need to ever watch a dub - they can still be really enjoyable, like in these shows! Frieren mimic comparison was fun too, yes in different series/lore, mimics can go from being relatively harmless to things of nightmares (even worse than here). Loved the reactions and discussion, and I look forward to more!

Love your exorcism gummy bears 🤣 Honestly some of the alcoholic gummy bears I've made for weekend Cons could easily be used to exorcise ghosts...or get them drunk 🤷‍♀😂 Yeah the YouTube algorithm is notorious for giving you spoilers from suggested videos whether that be down to their titles or their thumbnails 😮‍💨 Made me evil giggle at the idea of giving you ideas thanks to the potential shibari kink Laios might have 🤭 Kabru definitely does have some similarities to Akaashi 🤔 I will accept the Opening being Falin as the Queen of Yuri and Laios as the King of Yaoi 🤣 I love them all calling out Laios for being an idiot, but still being willing to let him go ahead and do what he wants. This show does an amazing job of portraying their reactions 😆 But yeah when Laios wants to go a third time is my favourite moment of their reactions. They're all set to kill him (or at least knock him unconscious) 🤣 I said the same thing about the paint when Laios said the food tasted of paint! 😆 The image of Chilchuck pushing them all away with his back really making it seem like he's Atlas carrying the world on his shoulders. I do adore though getting a bit more Chilchuck focus, especially getting to hear inside his head. It really is cool to see just how much he has to consider when trying to deal with traps and the like. But the silly bits of Laios' trivia going through his mind was my favourite bit 🤣 It shows he does listen to Laios, but I have to laugh that those specific comments are what he remembers. Chilchuck predicted Senshi and Laios' immediate reactions perfectly 🤣 Chilchuck in that moment of eating the mimic really is so much like David Tennant!! 😆 This humour is also right up my alley too. But it also made me very hungry watching it so I'd always watch each episode whilst eating my dinner. So long as I didn't think about what they were *actually* eating in some of the episodes [like last week's, bugs are a big NOPE from me] I was all good. Until we got to these comedic moments and I'd sometimes end up regret eating or drinking as I watched 🤣 I really love how much we learn about the ecosystem of the things within the dungeon. To me that elevates the story and gives it a more realistic feel than it being firmly a fantasy based on magic and things just happening to further the plot etc. It definitely makes the story feel a lot more fleshed out than other stories with similar settings that I've read or watched. For Chilchuck's age it wasn't that he was going to say he was thirty-something. He hesitantly was trying to say "This year" which is "Kotoshi" in Japanese; the "Th..." was Chilchuck saying just the start ("Ko..."). If he'd been saying he was thirty-something he would have started saying "san-juu". But he definitely has a more mature vibe than even someone who is in their late 20s. Laios is definitely younger than Chilchuck, hence him referring to Chilchuck with the prefix -san after learning his age. But interesting theories on the ages 👀 There were a couple of paintings in my friend's home that used to scare the crap out of me as a child too, like you with your great aunt. But my friend couldn't understand why those paintings creeped me out yet I could sleep in my room with this glass-fronted cabinet my Granda made me, filled with my collection of porcelain dolls with their glass eyes all staring at you 🤣 I even had one that had a mechanism at the back of her head that made the eyes swivel from side to side. Scared the utter crap out of two of my friends by flicking the mechanism whilst they were at the toilet so that when they came back into my room the eyes of that specific doll would be looking in another direction 😈 Marcille with her hair down really is so pretty, but also so realistic both in her taking her hair down to sleep, and her hair not being perfectly flawless when Chilchuck wakens her. Especially love that little strand of hair in front of her face. Really adds to the feel of her not being entirely awake, which later makes you agree with Chilchuck's thoughts that Marcille isn't going to notice he's been gone for so long. Romania: I was ready [drops knife] Your knife skills are as good as mine 🤣 My family prefer not to be in the kitchen when I'm using a knife because they worry about the way I hold it, or how I can just drop things like you did. Yay for the Irish Butter! For me I find it a little creamier than any other butters I've tried. Also gotta say I love Huckleberry making his presence *known* whilst you were answering the questions 😂 Cooking on a skillet, especially when herb butter is involved can be tricky to get the right temperature. I'm like you that I can become very impatient and throw the heat up too high. But if it tastes good then that's all that matters! Crispy bits of garlic taste soooo good. It looks like a feast. Maybe not a royal one, but one more suited to just one person eating 😁 Also your comments on the illusionary quality of the cooking just make it all the more fitting for food from a painting that had no substance 😂 I'm a little weird (according to my family), I adore grapes [I'll eat any type, sweet or sour ones] and love grape juice but I cannot abide sultanas or raisins 🤢 I've never cooked fish or seafood before (I've only just managed to be okay going passed raw fish in the grocery store without needing to hold my breath because of the smell) but I'm definitely like you when it comes to cooking pork or any kind of poultry for my Mum and her partner. My Mum's had a couple of bad bouts of food poisoning from eating out places so on some occasions I do probably overcook the meat, but if cooking it thoroughly lowers the risk of food poisoning then that's what I'll do! That edamame looks and sounds so good! As to the cheese...honestly I've heard horror stories about American cheese 🤣 The type of cheese you had, because of the herbs, would be considered a more moderate cheese here. But normal cheese would be the same consistency just it would only be cheese and no added ingredients like herbs, red onion, cranberries, etc. I just finished my dinner and now I want some bread and cheese 😂 Seiyuu for this episode: The purple-eyed elf is voiced by Kobayashi Yuu, the same seiyuu for young Hisagi from Bleach; Yanagi from Daily Lives of High School Boys; and Sasha from Shingeki no Kyojin. Delgal's seiyuu is Shimura Tomoyuki, who has also voiced Gregory from Banana Fish; a few side characters from Naruto; Kinrei from Psycho-Pass; and Kitts Verman from Shingeki no Kyojin. Delgal's father is voiced by Ootsuka Houchuu, who is also the voice actor for Raban from Berserk; Metastacia (the Hollow Aizen created that killed Kaien) from Bleach; Jiraiya from Naruto; Sousuke Natsume from Bungou Stray Dogs; Tatsu's Boss from Gokushufudou; and Sendou Akira from Slam Dunk. His mother is voiced by Sugimura Chikako. She has also voiced Dorothy (one of the hostess girls Kazuki was close with) as well as Taiga's mother from Buddy Daddies.

Anime Annie

Unfortunately, the syllable Chilchuck stutters on was "ko-", for "kotochi de" which was localized as "This year". The number he said at the end of that sentence was "nijukyu-sai" (29).

This some extra lore that we don’t really get in the main series. Half foots average lifespan is 50 and their age of maturity is 14. If chilchuck is 29 as he says that would make him middle aged by half foot standards but if he was 38 he’d probably be considered elderly (slight speculation). For the others Human’s, in this world, have an average lifespan of 60 while we in our modern world with modern technology and medicine live to about 70. Their age of maturity is 16 so medieval logic I suppose. Elves average lifespan is 400 there age of maturity is 80. Dwarves average lifespan is 200 and their age of maturity is 40. Of course there’s always room for error infant mortality most be considered as that can lower life expectancy rates. Then there’s unfortunate accidents and wars. Then you have the people that live past that. My own grandmother is 81 past our own life expectancy. Do to my own job I talk to many people in there 90s.

Icy

I had a heck of a time thinking of a recipe that we usually do here at home that I could pull from. Then you decided to do a court feast! I think yours turned out nicely and it was well balanced! So I do know a bit about medieval cuisine and I am not an expert at all! The fish is a good choice as on certain days, fish was eaten as it was not considered meat. This was permissible on days you were to abstain from eating warm blooded animals according to the Bible. Hence, no meat on Friday! There was also almond milk which was used instead of milk so that beverage has been quaffed down for many a century! A recipe: https://medievalcookery.com/recipes/almondmilk.html Cool recipe website: https://medievalcookery.com/index.html The pageantry of the table: they ate almost everything! A courtly table was adorned with imported fruit, savory pies, game beasts, swans, peacocks, and fowl of many kinds. Food was sculpted into elaborate show pieces that exemplified wealth and excess! Sugar and spices were eaten and seen as medicinal, so they ate a lot of it! Surprisingly, the peasant diet by comparison was very healthy and devoid of sugar. As the ruling class lost their health and their teeth, the peasants usually kept all their teeth and they were more healthy overall. The other thing is that the animals that inhabit the countryside did not belong to the peasants, they belonged to the lord of the land. So vegetables, fish and bread were mostly eaten by regular people and fancy foods for the rich. Peasant food: https://youtu.be/WeVcey0Ng-w?si=X92e3-clgzLSefWW really, it looks quite tasty! I should have shared this video a while ago, but court food is a good place to showcase the Cockentrice! If you are not familiar with Tasting History with Max Miller, he cooked one! https://youtu.be/X-L2fVjnHFE?si=eCB0xuWg1lFdbsry When I was a kid, my dad loved to roast pig in the backyard. We would have a huge block party where everyone would cook something. Dad always cooked the pig! Mind you, this was in Oak Park Illinois in the ‘70’s! Not exactly a place you would expect this to happen! We would empty out the fridge and stuff a whole hog in there! It would be bigger than I was! So, my dad constructed a spit that the pig fit on and it was easy for us kids to man by turning the bicycle wheel. Yes, it was the kids job to cook that thing! Since it was at our house, it was mostly myself and my sister that maned the wheel. Such good memories, when it was done, the whole neighborhood feasted, going from house to house dining on what was served. Games, music, people visiting and lots of food! I wish we did things like this nowadays. This was probably the closest that we came to this kind of eating. Cherished memories. Chilchuck being th…. 29 is hilarious! I’ve been there! For the longest time I looked younger than my age and people couldn’t tell. Unfortunately I think they can tell now that I’m 56! 😅 hahahaha! Another great episode and cooking session, glad it turned out well. I do love edamame! The frozen kind is great especially while snacking and watching a good movie!
