March Comes in Like a Lion // 3-Gatsu no Lion: Episode 44 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

*SEASON FINALE HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

WHAT an incredible series! WHAT an incredible season finale! I can't decide whether to wait it out for Shaft or dive into the manga but what I do know is that this series is GORGEOUS and the growth of Rei, the themes, and all of the art, the symbolism -- everything about this show is beautiful and I could rave about it endlessly!

Let's savor this amazing season finale, though, for now!

Seriously, I cannot believe we’re at the hiatus for March, now! It’s so weird! This episode - it was just so powerful - I’m still not over the scene with the Dog! How DARE they wretch that emotion out of me! I really hope they at least keep Taro alive for a while…along with everyone else in this series, hahah! Haven’t we suffered enough?! Change is so hard, but this show somehow makes it more palatable if we know we have people to turn to in times of change. I really am glad I watched this series, because it’s honestly helped me with processing some really hard things going on in my own personal life and that bittersweetness is something I can appreciate at least. I love that Hina was able to let Takahashi go and be inspired by him and Rei in that moment and know that they understand her! Hina is seriously so inspiring! That’s so true about Hina and Takahashi being the “children” of March Town as well. And the bob haircutttttt! That scene was SO relatable! But yes, the moment we get her from Rei’s perspective?! YES, LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT! I love that Rei has grown so much and realized his feelings for her! And yeah, Rei pretty much confirming his love for her in this moment; it’s so perfect! But yeah, it’s so wild to think that we’re done with March for now - It’s been SUCH a journey and I love this series with all my heart! For now, anyway, I will be waiting with bated breath for Shaft to give us season 3! Thank you so much for joining me on this journey and for all the great comments!

What an amazing episode this was, and what a great way to close the season. The way that opening chapter played made me think of how every moment in that house, for Rei, is just lifeless and frozen, there's a lack of true life or affection, of warmth or passing of time, if we're going to go with the episode's theme; EXCEPT FOR WHEN REI IS WITH THE DOG, the one being that showed him love when he was growing up so sincerely and easily, and the animation actually moves and comes to life when Rei is with him. I don't think this series is cruel enough to kill off Taro any time soon. Yes, March can be devastating with its emotional bits, but they are never without hope and a ray of sunshine shinning at the end of the storm. Getting through this episode was a very emotional journey to me. A few years back, while watching another show that touched o the same themes of change and how hard that can be, I was in a very hard place and that show made me sad and connected with me a lot because of it. Now, revisiting the same themes with March, I felt a lot more healed and stable; and that made me emotional because time DID pass, and it healed me much as it's done with Rei, and now I can appreciate the bittersweetness of being specially aware of the passage of time and the change of things, as it sometimes happens. To me, Hina not going to see Takahashi because she has to work at the festival stand of the bakery *is* her being inspired by Takahashi and Rei and making her dream a goal by taking helping out at the bakery a priority and something that important. Now, she has to work hard to make that goal come true, as Rei and Takahashi are doing, and I love that Hina gets to implement it in her own ways as well. Something I noticed, is that when Hina says they're "children of March Town" we only see Takahashi and Hina's reflection in the restaurant's little division glass wall, and not Rei. After all, Rei only moved into March Town a few years back, and while he might love the place and have found belonging, he didn't grow up there; he has the memories, and carries the traditions of other places with him, and has become an amalgamation of all the places he has lived in, a patchwork of towns, and now March town gets to be a part of it, something else for him to carry around in his heart and the pieces that have made him who he is. Oh my goodness, that whole storyline with the bob was so age appropriate XD What little girl hasn't wanted a bob for completely wrong reasons and ended up with something they don't like? Lol. For me, it was particularly terrible because I have wavy hair but didn't know what to do with it at the tender age of 11, so my hair just frizzed out and looked like a very chick and stylish lion's mane... At least Hina won't feel alone in the department of bad haircuts. It's also so funny, because I think it's sort of normal to really dislike a new haircut, only for it to grow on you eventually. I mean, you've had one look for so long that another one just feels weird and uncomfortable a lot of the time XD So, I'm glad Rei was there to make Hina feel better. And, oh my gosh, the moment we see how Hina looks from Rei's perspective? Absolutely magical and stunning. You can *feel* the breath being knocked out of his lungs and his brain crashing. The slow little blink? On point. And then Rei just keeps saying how much he likes how Hina looks, because she looks so beautiful, (and this is something that I don't think season 1 Rei would have said out loud ever. Not even early season 2 Rei, who wouldn't enter the main house because Hina was sleeping in there; and I know it's not quite the same, but still). I suspected her hair didn't look so bad when we wouldn't get a normal animation of her, but I wasn't expecting her to look so cute, though I do think those bangs do nothing for her face. If there was any sliver of a doubt that Rei is in love with Hina at this point, this episode dispelled it with the strength of a hurricane. Seriously, I can't believe we're done with March, for the moment. This has being an incredibly emotional journey that I was not expecting but enjoyed so much.
