For this year's first installment of JanuYaoi, Patreon chose a series that is surprisingly connected to *several* I've been watching this year! The parallels were a-plenty, but this couple of...aggressive introverts and their navigation through young love and bettering themselves -- it was a sell at first, but I'm really glad I dived into this one!

This was a very fun story! I really was surprised at how MUCH we also got with these two out of this series! I think I was confusing this series with another that I’ve been wanting to see, but it also reminded me a lot of “Yes, No, or Maybe” that I read a few years back! There was a lot going on in this series and a lot of cute moments - and YES, Sayama the tank, haha!! No concussions in sight - oh to be young again! They really progressed…QUICKLY, but I’m glad the manga goes into more depth with their relationship and fleshes it out more! But I agree, I’m not here for hands in my mouth, sadly. 😛No kink shaming! The Alyssa Edwards “wide eyed” meme is so applicable in some of these moments! But yes, how they did not get caught is beyond me! But I like that the manga gets more down to it with their relationship and their communication with one another! This is honestly the SHORTEST of the series for the year’s Januyaoi, so I hope you like the other installments to come! Thank you for the comment and kind words and stay warm as well!

Sayama and Saikawa hit some tropes that I like haha. It was definitely more than I expected... in more ways than one HAHA. I can't believe I never came across this ?? Is this perhaps more recent maybe. I thought maybe I'd be familiar with the manga given how reminiscent the art style is. NOPE! I was totally blind. I have quite a number of thoughts so forgive my incoherent... ness lol. Reallyyyyy convenient that Saikawa *happened* to fall over Sayama at the stairs. It's a cute detail because emotionally he did fall for him first it seems. That's adorable to note. Speaking of stairs I laughed out loud seeing Sayama fall off the stairs trying to get away from Saikawa when he confronted him about being ignored. That scene did make me remember tripping in front of my crush once. To say I was embarrassed is an UNDERSTATEMENT- my whole face felt like it was burning. (Nvm how I busted my lip) I fear I will never live that memory down 🤣 (the worst part is that I fell because of something silly) Also maybe I'm alone on this but Sayama is a tank!! He walks around just fine after falling. Not even a concussion when Saikawa falls on him at the STAIRCASE- Annie could never. (Sorry Annie haha) I will say I was surprised to see them progress so much in the first half. Making out and.. putting fingers in.. organs pfft. I'm a clean freak and the idea of someone's hands- yeah I never found the appeal either. Not shaming anyone's kink it's just not for me lol. I was giggling when you said we don't know where his hands have been LMAOOO. Right? Especially coming from a teenage boy- oh my god. Waiiit.. so that bathroom moment with Sayama... it really triggered my inner Alyssa Edwards hahahaha. I'm assuming he's "relieving" himself when he stared at Saikawa's lips in class.. oh my god. This is a school yall ahdhfhfjfjg. In broad daylight too HAHA. I'm really happy that in the second half they start to communicate more and just overall demonstrate each other compassion and acceptance. Seeing Saikawa give Sayama some courage (wink wink nudge nudge Sunspots lol. Doubt you'll read this) was so wholesome and sweet. I was not expecting that mask lore!! I wouldn't be surprised if this was a one shot or two volume series but hey it could be longer. I definitely wanna tag along with the discussion (tmr) and find out. This is a great first installment and I'm excited to see what's coming next. I'll have to sleep unfortunately but I know what I'm resume with breakfast hahaha. As always great reaction! 2025-01-10 08:14:21 +0000 UTCThank you for the comment and kind words! It’s so weird that we’re already starting another Januyaoi! That is VERY true about Mafuyu being crass around Hiiragi! I wouldn’t be opposed to a body swap Haikyuu AU, haha! I didn’t mind Algebra in school, but Geometry and proofs and graphing? Gross. Nope. And Pre-Calculus (the farthest I ever got, in high school), I was lucky there were only 4 of us in the class (hello, tiny high school) and the other three were all math majors, so I just quietly had them help the entire time, haha! Saikaway comes on STRONG in the OVA and early parts of the manga, so I’m glad it gets more resolved as it goes! But yeah, the mouth “foreplay” has never been something I’ve found attractive. But yeah, these teenage boys and their libidos! Also, just the idea of shins being hurt makes my legs ache. The fact that we get communication between these boys did sell it for me! I am glad that we at least had the manga to flesh them out, and agree with the “manga bait” effect of a lot of these OVA’s, especially for BL! I am still in awe that Saikawa’s VA was Koganei! HELLO – and ahhh, the Yes, No, Maybe connection! That does make sense about the difference with Saikawa and Sayama being teenage boys vs. BingQiu being adults! And yes, once the communication was involved, it was much better! “ENTHUSIASTIC bottom” is SO much more fitting! I agree 100%! But also…yeah…teenagers and sex prep. Welp. hahahaha, at least they were thinking about it! Thank you for the comment and kind words! I was pleasantly surprised by the couple in the manga -- it definitely gave me a better overall impression of the series - as long as there's communication and growth, I can accept some initial pushy behaviour, and I'm glad this was the case with Mask Danshi! Post review, will add it to my list as it seems like it portrays some growth and they actually learn to communicate better! Sayama’s VA is also one of the twins in Tsurune (Senichi) and Takashi in Yarichin Bitch Club. 🥰 Thank you for another excellent Januyaoi installment. Cannot wait for next week! ❤️

2025-01-04 08:27:48 +0000 UTCWoohoo 2025 Januyaoi!!! 🥳🥳🥳 Nice reaction to watch just as we got our first snow that's lying (not even an inch but I do not like the snow and neither does Tara 😆🥶). Romania: Much more crass than Mafuyu Me: Unless Hiiragi is involved then little sh*t!Mafuyu comes out 😂 Sayama and Saikawa are really like if Kageyama and Hinata's personalities got switched 🤣 Though that's now kinda making me want a body swap Haikyuu AU... Not even six minutes in and we get a kabedon 🥵🤣 Sayama was truly adorable with the flowers spinning around his head and the big eyes 🥺 Right there with you on Maths. At first my thoughts were "A little less gaming might be enough to help you get a better/more decent grade" but the minute I knew what class it was for? Nope, my complete and utter commiserations Sayama. Though surprisingly I found equations/algebra to be a rather easy part of Maths. All the rest of it though was not for me at all, especially mental arithmetic. Saikawa is a teddy bear in the streets, domineering bear between the sheets 😅 Definitely seems like a switch got flipped in him when it comes to Sayama and his mouth. Teenage boys and their libido...I did have to giggle though at your utter disgust of the mouth 'foreplay' Saikawa was doing, but did understand without foreknowledge of their relationship and communication that Saikawa does come off as quite the red flag in that moment. No matter how many times I watch it I feel that pain when Sayama falls up the stairs. I've fallen up stairs many more times than I've fallen down them, and it hurts way worse because it's usually your shin taking the brunt of the impact on the lip of the stair too 😬 Though it is unfair anime logic that Sayama's able to just walk off such an epic fall like that 😆 I do like that we get some proper communication between the two. And that Saikawa doesn't tell Sayama he's lame or that he isn't for letting one moment in his childhood affect him so much. He lets him decide that for himself 🥰 Saikawa's acceptance of Sayama is just so beautiful 🥺 The sad thing about only getting a short OVA for a BL series does mean that there will be sacrifice when it comes to fleshing out the characters and story. But I do think it is a decent way to advertise/promote a BL manga, and gain new readers who are intrigued by the story. Saikawa giving Sayama the option that he'd give back the bear is so sweet. There isn't any belittling Sayama for his trauma, only trying to find a way to best help him. And then the best way to help him later is for Saikawa to physically remind Sayama he's not alone and it'll be okay 🥺 But yes, like you I was worried about the way Sayama full on launched the bear 😂 Good on Kobayashi for being able to catch that though. I am ridiculously awful at catching things being thrown at me 🤣 As you now know Saikawa's voice actor isn't Teppei's, he's voiced by Eguchi Takuya (a true chameleon when it comes to his voice at times) so he's Koganei's voice actor. He's also the seiyuu for Tatsuki from Yes, No, Maybe?; and Terushima from Haikyuu!!. Sayama's voice actor Kobayashi Yuusuke is also the seiyuu for one of the twins [Sen] from Tsurune; Nao from Stars Align; Minegishi Toshiki from Mob Psycho; Tachihara Shunzen from Bungou Stray Dogs; and Satoshi from Uzumaki. Ah, a good old degradation kink 😆 I can see why Saikawa would remind you of Jinshi 🤣 I feel like, for me, I'm more forgiving of Saikawa and Sayama's initial lack of communication because it's more understanding given their age than Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe's relationship. And then their relationship becomes so much better once there is that communication developed between them. Sayama I'd maybe describe as an enthusiastic bottom rather than a power bottom, just in how he's fully on board with what they do together and communicates his feelings to Saikawa. I do really love that they are properly communicative during their first time and, whilst they aren't using a proper and safe lubricant (Vaseline can have an effect on condoms and cause them to tear, and it can cause irritation to delicate areas such as the anus), at least they did use some type of lubricating agent. Such a great reaction to start off Januyaoi! Looking forward to what's in store next week 🥳
