DORORO: Episode 12 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

 *SIBLING RIVALRY HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

Oh, we're halfway through the series and Tahomaru, my lad! Seeing him be tugged around by his parents and his own thoughts being muddled, seeing him come to the morally...wrong(?) conclusion, and seeing him fight his own family was HARD to watch!

There's a LOT going on in this episode, but we're at the mid-point, so should we expect any less?!

Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

DORORO: Episode 12 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

I couldn’t help when Mulan comes to mind and YES, Dororo’s hidden gender reminds me of Mulan! I feel bad for the mom but she does at least seem aware at how complicit she was, but like you said, it seems Daigo has been fighting with her about this constantly. And yeah, we were rooting for Tahomaru, but he just can’t view his dad in a bad light and him wanting to help his people is so easily taken advantage of by Daigo. I think the fact that Tahomaru started from a place of good and doing what his parents couldn’t, only to get sucked down by Daigo’s manipulation, only makes it worse. Worst Family Reunion indeed! But I agree, Dororo is an essential part of Hyakkimaru’s life at this point and such the glue - I wish Hyakkimaru could realize that more, but alassssss! I do laugh at Biwamaru peacing out, but him running away from helping or doing…anything…in the situation throughout this series does irk me at times. I still can’t believe Naruto’s VA voiced Sukeroku! We’ll give him that plot armor, haha!! And yes, Daigo is just…the worst. Not THE worst on the channel right now *dark laugh* but definitely in this series! Thank you for the comment!

Thank you for being patient as I got to your comment! But yes, Edgar was so kind getting me these episodes! I fully agree about Daigo and just feel sad that Tahomaru…not that he chose to save his people, because I get it, but that he instantly demonized his brother rather than consider any other possibility…but I get why he did it. It’s just incredibly unfair to Hyakkimaru and sad to see. I am in agreement that it’s a very scary, 1984-esque world right now and I hope that you all continue to be safe! Some Soma for the next 4 years INDEED. But yes, sadly a story as old as time. And that word! Ha! Bumblepuppy is fun to say! I do feel bad for the mother as well…and the sacrifice and suffering they do for their kids…I definitely feel for her and will be curious now that all this has gone down, where her character will go - if anywhere - from here. But it is a nice comparison and contrast with Hyakkimaru and Dororo’s moms in this as well. I’ll miss the OP and ED of the first cour as well but what can we do! Onward and upward! Thank you for the comment!!

I giggled at you saying the lyrics for I'll Make A Man Out Of You for Dororo's plan to escape 🤣 Mulan is an apt comparison too for Dororo considering both hid/hide their gender. The way Hyakkimaru and Tahomaru's mother's lips tremble when Tahomaru mentions the baby she lost always gets me 🥺 She's had to suffer all these years with the loss and the knowledge that their prosperity came from such a sacrifice. Her thinking "I lived upon a falsehood" whilst panning over some of the luxurious clothing she's had to wear since the land became more prosperous to me does show, in a way, she was complicit. Not in sacrificing Hyakkimaru to the demons, but rather not speaking out against the propaganda of how great Daigo is and how he fought and locked away the demons. But Daigo's words to her later "How many times must I tell you?" makes me wonder how many times, behind closed doors, she tried her best to fight against the evil choice Daigo made. I felt so much hope for Tahomaru, but I feel his need to be seen in a good light by his father is part of what snuffed out most of that hope 🥺 Daigo is such a manipulator in that moment in his wife's room. I do agree though that the change-up in his views did feel a little instantaneous in comparison to other parts of the story so far. Tahomaru definitely faked me out by starting with him not believing Daigo's choice to be right 🥲 He started by doing something his mother couldn't: speaking the truth before all those people of how their land gained prosperity. I absolutely adore that the moment Hyakkimaru heard Dororo calling for him he injured Tahomaru enough to be able to run and help the true sibling he has 🥺 I feel like the response of the people around Daigo is similar to the strangers' responses towards Hyakkimaru looking for help for Dororo. When it comes down to the choice of morality or your own continued survival at the standard you've been used to, there are a lot of people that will choose the latter. All the more so during times of war and tragedy, unless there's a collective push for camaraderie and helping one another (such as in WWII during The Blitz in London a lot of people helped search and clear the rubble, and take care of the survivors; or after 9/11 how retired emergency workers and streams of volunteers came out to help during that time of crisis). Dororo helping Hyakkimaru in the aftermath of Worst Family Reunion really made me appreciate their relationship so much more, and be thankful for Dororo's presence in Hyakkimaru's life. But also thankful Dororo calls things out for what they are. Dororo is definitely the glue to hold everything together. Sukeroku's family being alive was such a great comfort after the familial pain we got from Hyakkimaru meeting his family. Biwamaru just nope-ing out of there is probably my favourite moment of this episode that didn't hurt 😆 Honestly, Sukeroku being voiced by Naruto's seiyuu made me decide that the shounen protagonist plot armour from Naruto filtered over to help him survive 🤣 Audacity thy name is Daigo 😂

Thank you Edgar! With our winter snap, we have not lost any electricity. I understand the struggle! Tahomaru did not walk away from Omalas. He was raised not to walk away. It does seem sudden but to me, Tahomaru views himself as a servant of his people. In that regard, he is better than his father. Yes, he was on the right track but was swayed off track again. Was he gaslight by his father? I’d say to a degree. Daigo told him everything and Tahomaru still went along with it. We all have choices and sometimes the choices we make are selfish. It is far harder to loose stuff than to gain it. Also Daigo is a piece of crap. I was going to bring up our prosperity being built on the backs of others. I would say, we lived in Omalas. I’m not sure what we will be living in from Monday 1/20/2025 forward. To be sure, Omalas is rotten to the core. I fear we have slipped into 1984. (the book. In reality we have slipped further back) Heck, to continue the literary comparisons, we are a combination of 1984 and A Brave New World. I’m going to need some Soma for the next 4 yrs! 💊 Well, it’s a story as old as time, we are just experiencing it for the first time, so…… I wish we could walk away from Omalas. Centrifugal Bumblepuppy. I just like that word. ☺️ Hyakimaru’s mother! I feel so bad for her! She has been in pain for 16 years! The discussion of mothers and what they are, what they sacrifice and how they suffer for their children. I want to go on with this subject, but I will save it for later. Yeah in the anime, I agree, they would have to structure the story to fit the format and things develop fast sometimes. I think they did a good job! I too love the Op and Ed, I will miss them too. Can’t wait till next episode! And of course, great reaction!
