PING PONG The Animation: Episode 4 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

 *FINALING HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

I was wanting to see Kong vs. Kazama - ask and you SHALL RECEIVE! I was FLOORED by this episode and the multiple matches that happened between Kong, Peco, and Kaio's squad! There is a LOT to talk about this week, but this episode - like Episode 3 - was just SO ENTHRALLING, Y'ALL!

PING PONG The Animation: Episode 4 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

No, I am sure I’ll sound like a broken record saying the same thing each week! Yesss, I love the idea of how Obaba and Koizumi with Peco and Smile are! I love the entirety of the Kong vs. Kazama match! It’s so good! And definitely a slap to the face to Kong, who looked down on Japan as “not as good” at Ping Pong as his Chinese competition and himself. Hahahaha, that plot twist with the coach would have been amazing - I do love the relationship between Kong and his coach, though! I have loved Kong’s diva-ness, but I really don’t want him to leave after this episode either - it feels like we just met him! You can definitely tell that Smile holds Peco in high regard, and was upset that he lost; and you can’t blame him, for how much he’s gravitated around Peco growing up and how Peco’s been held in high regard, despite not living up to that potential! Peco’s laziness and lack of work ethic is something that grates at me, especially when you see that he IS good at Ping Pong - maybe that’s the coach in me like Koizumi! But yeah, this series, if anything can spin things on a dime! Thank you for the comment and kind words! All I can say based on what I’ve seen so far is…this series is WILD and I LOVE IT!

I want to add that we have 4 players in Smile, Peco, Sakuma and Kazuma and we also have 3 traits that they have talked about: Talent, Dedication/Hard Work, and Passion. Smile lacks passion Peco lacks dedication/hard work Sakuma lacks talent Kazuma has all 3.

I remember when this series came out, after each episode those of us who watched it would take to Ani-Twitter to praise how amazing it was, only for people who didn't to put it down as an ugly poorly drawn low budget anime. Such a same that this is still how a lot of people perceive this amazing series.

I know I sound like a broken record at this point, but this series makes me fall more and more in love with it every episode. The parallels between Obaba and the Koizumi and Peco and Smile are so great. What with Obaba being all about winning, and saying how she thought that if she didn't win there was no point to play, like Peco; and Koizumi being, apparently, more sensitive and holding himself back (I'm only on episode 4 so far, so I might have misinterpreted that conversation), much like we see Smile do. And it's fun that both Smile and Peco gravitate, whether willingly or unwillingly is another thing, towards the coach that they are more similar with, even though neither of them know it. Kazama being represented by the dragon when facing Kong is so interesting to me. I mean, Kazama is Japanese, and he is playing Wenge who as Chinese comes from "the land of the dragon" and the dragon is one of their major symbols (with the dragon being a deeply symbolic creature for Chinese culture (representing power, good fortune, and success). It feels a little like a slap in the face to Kong, who so fiercely looked down on Japanese ping pong, to have Kazama represented by a dragon. For a second, when Wenge was talking with his coach, and the coach was saying that he isn't only Wenge's coach but also his friend, I thought he was going to say that he wasn't only Wenge's coach but also his father *lol* I think I've watched too many dramas. That would have been quite the plot twist. Smile looked more distraught by Peco losing than by his own loss, I think that tells you a lot about him. I hope he can start to stop idealizing Peco, which I think he does a lot, and recognizing that he is allowed to want to reach his full potential and be better. The two people that Smile let win because he wanted to spare their feelings, both of them lost because of it; because Smile didn't challenge them and, in a way, they grew complacent and confident in an ability they didn't truly have. And Smile saw the results with the both of them; which, I hope, that with the scolding the coach gave him at the beginning of the episode, makes him realize that he truly *isn't* helping them by letting them win and not suffer the bitterness of the defeat. Look, I wasn't the biggest Kong fan at the beginning, he seemed like a jerk to me, and I wasn't into it, but I have being warming towards him a little more with each episode, and now I actually really like him... please don't tell me I won't see him again T_T He is super interesting and a great foil for Peco and Smile, just like Sakuma, so I think it would truly be a loss if he left. Which is a little bit funny, because I was predisposed and set to really like Peco, and I did at the beginning; but I've been disliking him a little bit more with every episode *lol* Like, he isn't bad or anything, he is a fascinating character, but he is not someone I think I would ever like in real life. I hope to see him grow through the next couple of episodes, though. So, yeah, I have a lot of thoughts and feelings with this show and I can't wait to see how it ends, considering that Inter High is already dealt with.
