Revolutionary Girl Utena: Episode 31 FULL LENGTH Reaction & Discussion!

 *SOAP OPERATIC HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

When I expect a Nanami-centered episode, I expect wacky humor and zany animal-related hijinks. Uhm...that is not happening this week.

Instead, with a wild twist in the plot at the 10th hour and Nanami stumbling across some very impactful revelations...I am tearing my hair out wondering what this is going to do for story now that we have...what? 8 episodes left?!

Revolutionary Girl Utena: Episode 31 FULL LENGTH Reaction & Discussion!

Yeah, this episode was wild and I really don’t like the vibe it’s giving off. I feel for Nanami, too! Her brother lying was just awful. And yes, Touga wanting power is just…uck. I hope he and Akio get alllllll the karma! That’s a great point about Saionji, but then, he was “sneaking” in there supposedly without anyone knowing, though Mikage found him out rather easily. But he’s a ghost soo…good point about rules not applying to men, though. The whole scene with the elevator and the star lab room = disturbing. I agree with Anthy setting things in motion but that’s why I get confused and mad at her. Ugh. I just hate Akio getting in the way of this ship, too…bring it back, as well! I agree! I wonder how much control Akio has on Anthy, but it is frustrating, nonetheless. I’ve definitely shared my theories on the Gemini thing but this show…I just want answers as we’re nearing the end! I agree, I miss simpler times, too! Thank you for the comment!

Not knowing what is going to happen in this show each week frightens me so much! I watched this episode last night for the first time (and no knowledge of what's ahead) with my daughter - who after this episode said everyone in this show needs a therapist, haha! And well, she's not wrong! We can blame a few culprits in particular for all the damages I think! Definitely starting to come back around on Nanami, poor girl had it rough this episode. Her brother was lying to her this whole time - regardless of them not being blood - how he could never have told her that, keeping her in the dark, I think because it makes him feel good and it gives him power and that is so gross (ok, so thinking some more, maybe he's also like 'is this girl stupid - we have different blood types, it's impossible' but even still). And then he keeps "joking" with her to rub it in even more. What will happen to Touga now, hope he gets some karma his way for what he's doing with all these middle schoolers and Nanami. It was a bit silly to see Akio rush in to mansplain the rules to Nanami - can't have our middle schoolers sleeping in unassigned rooms, meanwhile Saionji sleeping in Wakaba's room for weeks is just fine. Guess the rules don't apply to the men, including Akio. I had a bad feeling about Nanami seeing Anthy + Akio as what she wanted with Touga, "makes you jealous" she says. And then she FINDS OUT THE HORROR OF IT! Her walking in on Akio and Anthy doing what I can only imagine but don't want to - and how Nanami immediately locks herself in this red elevator. In my mind, perhaps she's just frozen in place, the trauma of seeing Akio + Anthy in the act is just so great, that she blocks out her vision, and the red elevator is just made up from her mind to shield her, I'm not sure. And that music playing too - so evil and ominous sounding. Sometimes I can't help but think Anthy just really like to shake the hornets' nest. Maybe it's just Akio directing her, but she always loves to set things in motion, by banana peel or ever so casually dropping some information to people. Loved you calling Akio the Worst Tuxedo Mask ever, YES! WORST! Something is up with the disappearing Anthy, but not sure what. I really hate the Utena + Akio direction this show is going now, want my Utena + Anthy back! Anthy + Akio is just so gross. Good call on the rock paper scissors! I think you're definitely right, I went and watched how it plays out and Utena + Nanami both throw paper, you can even freeze the video on that alone, with Anthy totally not even in the picture. Then a second or two after they both have thrown paper, Anthy throws rock in and "loses," it does seem on purpose now that you mention it! What does that mean, did Akio demand her to lose, just how much does he control her? And why are Anthy and Akio so friendly this episode, like with feeding the shaved ice to Akio, is that just a facade? Gemini constellation, gemini is twins - at least that's where my mind goes, but not sure what to do with that. What a wild episode! I really miss those season 1 and 2 duels where things were so much simpler!
