Welp. All I can say is that this episode hit me very hard and very close to home.

Watching an episode about a 14-year-old experience SA by a grooming predator...from the perpetrator's perspective...was absolutely haunting, jarring, and sickening.
And that's the point. That's all I have to say this week. It's a Recap Episode.

I definitely feel for these characters so hard! Thank you for the comment and kindness -- I didn't know how long this discussion was going to be so I'm surprised myself that I went through it but yeah, SA as a plot device...just isn't for me, but all we can do is move forward...and hope we don't have any more recap episodes.

2025-02-21 00:50:12 +0000 UTCI HATE that Anthy is an accomplice…and maybe that’s why Utena is less apt to speak up or fight back, because if ANTHY, a person she trusts is okay with it…then how bad can it be? I’m going to be honest, I am VERY bitter/frustrated/potentially hateful in the Ep 34 and 35 discussions – because I’m mad FOR these character, but I know it’s going to rub folks the wrong way, so I hope that people know where I’m coming from – I’m going to do a lot of reevaluation before Episode 36. I do definitely feel for Anthy, though, and I hate how it sounds like I don’t in this, but that’s definitely me projecting anger. Akio is definitely just as bad as Griffith, though. For sure. And yeah, when this series won, I wasn’t far into the Berserk manga, and I hadn’t gotten into that other series with SA, either. I will talk about it in the March update video, but series where the main character suffers SA? I just don’t need to engage because it’s just too personal. I’m no sad I’ve watched this show, but recovering from this episode has been hard, if I’m honest. I do appreciate all your support and kindness! I will work hard to bring better energy to Episodes 36+ because you all deserve that! Thank you so much!

2025-02-20 22:26:15 +0000 UTCI'm not mad it was voted on -- honestly, when it was decided, I wasn't too far into Berserk and the other series hadn't revealed its SA either...but yeah, watching this has shown me that I just can't have protagonists in series go through SA. It's just too hard-hitting for me, but thank you for the consideration!

Yeah, I will talk about this with future discussions/intros…I’m not sure how I feel about SA as “storytelling” - just for me, it’s not something I enjoy or need to see - but here we are. Yeah, this was one of the most effective forms of SA because it’s real. I’m sorry for your experience but thank you for your comment!

2025-02-16 22:53:56 +0000 UTCThe way that the episode so clearly shows that shows that untena wants to leave the hotel with akio. she keeps exersing and talking about reasons she should go home but akio keep coercing her to stay. She never "says no" but anyone can see she doesn't want to be there. even while shes being assualted she keeps talking about other things to distract herself. in my opinion i think shes dissociating while being assaulted. it definetly hits very close to home for me. from and literary stand point i can praise this episode for its storytelling but watching it makes me sick to my stomach. This episodes breaks me in a way that much more graphic and violent portrayals of sa never have.

Watching this reaction with your dread growing up to the end and discussion felt sickening and sad because of how much you bring to it, made me hate and feel sorry for characters even more, and I admire your strength to get through the discussion for this one and others from the past. Yes, let's not have SA written from those who haven't lived through them as plot devices. Thanks for the video, I hope there is a long break before we see something similar!

2025-02-16 19:24:20 +0000 UTCThe worst thing for me is that he makes Anthy be an accomplice to his fucking crimes. He's not only doing what he is doing to Anthy, On top of that he's taking Utena away from her, and adding insult to injury, he's making Anthy be the one who delivers her to him. I understand the frustration with Anthy at this point, but I feel for her. Her line of "I did not want to watch the real stars tonight" is so fucking sad. If Akio's sign off is 'End of the World' let ours be 'Death to Akio'. P.S. I hope this comes out in the way I intend it but I apologize if it doesn't. It might be good to have an executive decree to not have shows that go too much into this particular subject, we're all here to have a good time, you by discovering shows we think you'll like and the rest of us by sharing said shows. but struggling through stuff like this that picks at personal wounds just so strangers on the internet can watch feels a bit like bad karma on our part. I guess what I'm trying to say is you don't have to put up with stuff you don't want to. Sorry for the half baked thoughts. As always, I love and appreciate your videos, and the thought and energy that you bring to them. Thank you.
