The Apothecary Diaries Season 2: Episode 6 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

OH WOW, thank you English dub - actually giving the translation! That is really good to know - thank you for pointing that out! I assumed what you had when Loumen told her that originally!

Romaniablack

That would be the ONE clue, I suppose - I think the fact that she made and distributed the aphrodisiacs in front of Jinshi and he didn't chide her in that moment made me raise an eyebrow, but I'm glad you brought that up.

Romaniablack

Oh, if you're going to thank something thank curiosity because if you knew me you'd know it wasn't my memory, hahaha. I've airtagged everything I possibly can, and like a certain Christopher Nolan character I live or die by the notes I take... Memory is not my friend but thanks for the sentiment!

Alex Kornejo

Wow, what great memory you have! I definitely remember that discussion and thought it was odd for him to say that, but I just wrote it off as Maomao not being allowed to bring stuff with her in general, not specifically medicine mixing tools, but the actual dub discussion in Ep 13 @ 6:00 goes: Maomao: "Definitely need to bring mortar and pestle... and I'll have to have my notebook, I can't bring less underwear." Luomen: "So you know, you probably aren't allowed to take any of those with you. Positions are allowed certain supplies, and you aren't one. If you're seen with those tools, it may appear as though you're making poison." So that's a pretty veiled acknowledging of it, I think! Nice detective work there :)

L Freya

You know, the discussion about this discrepancy got me curious enough to want to go back and double check... In the episode where she's back home and she's getting ready to come back after she got fired, she did mention how now she had the chance of taking her medicine making equipment back with her and her dad tells her not to, since it might get her in trouble. It's not as direct as letting us know there's a ban in effect but it sort of alludes to that. I guess all the other stuff she did the previous season falls in the umbrella of providing home remedies or doing assistant duties to the doctor.

Alex Kornejo

Yes, I was really glad that the series managed to prove me wrong! ALSO, That theory about the lizard tails helping Eunuchs just…made me double-take! WILL HAVE to talk about that with Episode 7, hahaha!! But yes, prayers to anyone that tries to hold MaoMao down or keep a leash on her! The lead up to MaoMao and Shin’s confrontation was so good! I love how it was revealed and the lengths MaoMao took to get “ready” for that moment! The quack doctor, bless his soul; he was not ready to take on Lady Shin, and I don’t quite blame him, but I love that he was willing to work with Maomao for that moment! Fully believe the Crystal Pavillion brings out the rowdiness in MaoMao! But Lihua being back at full force was so impressive! That entire “confrontation” by the two of them with Lady Shin was icing on the cake! That sucks about your nosebleeds; I had a friend in school that was like that - and yeah, staining the silk cloth - MaoMao would hate that, especially as it was Jinshi’s. HOORAY FOR NO DOOMED YURI! I needed that this week! I agree about the letter as well! And I hadn’t thought about it being the servant girl, though. That’s a fair point! I’ll have to bring that up in the next episode, too! Thank you for the comment and kind words! What a great episode!

Romaniablack

*SLURPS TEA LOUDLY* ....Agreed! ;)

Romaniablack

I am really glad that I was wrong as well in this episode - it was such a breath of fresh air to have that faith reinstalled in this! But yes, they got us, gals! 😛And I was very happy for it! HAHAHAHA Will it?! I’d be all for that! 😛And 10 seasons of Apothecary Diaries sounds like a dream, honestly! Lady Shin definitely deserved what she got this episode and I loved Lihua taking charge and being so badass! It’s definitely my favorite of the season as well so far! I’m so glad you enjoyed Arcane Season 1! And ooohhh, I mean, I would rewatch that movie! Or at least do a commentary throughout it! :P Thank you so much for the comment and kind words!

Romaniablack

Gyokuyou is having the time of her life with Jinshi and MaoMao's antics, but LITERALLY - Lihua was featuring her very own Young and the Restless over here! :P Thank you for the comment and kind words! This episode was SO much fun!

Romaniablack

Thank you for posting and the comment! I am going to be curious as to what the Emperor will do about people making medicine that aren’t Eunuchs, so like I said in the discussion, it will be interesting to see where it goes. I do enjoy MaoMao being firm with her resolve like she was in this episode, too! And Lihua flexing why she’s deserving of her position was really great in this episode - the Emperor is lucky indeed! You may have misunderstood but I’ve been talking since episode 1 about this “season” being two consecutive “cours” - in the discussion I said this season has 6 episodes left of “cour 1” - In Season 1, it was split into 2 cours – from watching many anime, I’ve noticed when a 24 episode season comes out anymore in modern anime, it’s usually 2 cours (meaning 2 OPs, 2 EDs) and often, one “storyline” and plot will wrap up in the first cour and then start anew in the second “cour.” It was like this for season 1 of Apothecary Diaries, so I have no reason to think it will be different this time around. But we shall see! Thank you for the comment and kind words!

Romaniablack

HAHAHAHAA

Romaniablack

Yes! I remember a few episodes back, someone on Patreon noted that -- yeah, Lihua was every bit in her rights to give Shin more than a slap! Especially considering! Thank you for the comment!

Romaniablack

I definitely think this might be a show for you to watch! Thank you for the comment!

Romaniablack

We don’t talk about Bruno … ahem I mean Attack on Titan finaaaaaal season 😂😂😂

Be Happy

Yes you should 😁

Done, sorry I did not realize that was a spoiler.

LoreleiS

Hello Lorelei Could you please edit the part about papa bro wanting MaoMao to solve a mystery as it’s a direct spoiler for events to come Thank you for your understanding

Anime only, no spoilers... oh how little faith I had! So glad to be wrong, but still, with this show, Dungeon Meshi, and Frieren as my top 3 from 2024, I really should have had more faith than I did. It WAS a little frustrating last episode, but I do wish my comment from that episode was more or less the same only I ended it on "I'm sure the red flags which were raised are just to throw us off and the next episode is going to knock it out of the park!" Yeah, I wish I wrote that, but from now on I will also be giving this show much more leeway! They got me good, what a great show! At this point, the ox bezoar is going to be Maomao's engagement present from Jinshi right?! Season 10 or something hopefully! Give us lots of time! Lady Shin locking the sick in the shed to isolate them and not caring whether they get treatment or die, wow, that's downright murderous. Like you said, perhaps Lady Shin would have fit in with a past emperor, but not present day! It was fun to see Consort Lihua in good health and taking command! Loved this episode, definitely my favorite so far! As a side, I made it to the end of season 1 of Arcane, and it was funny to hear you defend the SMB movie during the discussion from your brother picking on it, haha, I might have to watch that again one day. Maybe as a $50 tier reward lol (mostly kidding)! I'm not sure it aged too well, but who knows!

L Freya

Jinshi and MaoMao may be Gyokyo’s soap opera, but Lihua is over here starring in her own soap opera 😆 Thanks for another video! They’re always a lot of fun to watch

Official seasons can sometimes be a mess because of background contractual stuff that don't really have anything to do with us as viewers. After all, how long did Attack on Titan's final season last? It's just easier to think cour=season and not over think it. Real seasons last about 12/13 weeks after all.

Alex Kornejo

"Maomao needing to research the lizard's tail so as to make the medicine she thought about in the previous episode...how to grow back what the eunuchs have lost because that could make her rich, I love her" This actually flew over my head until I read your comment, that's hilarious... And it makes sense with her character because Maomao has always had an eye towards business the whole show; though in this case, since in her mind it would help Jinshi it could also be a different self serving motivation.

Alex Kornejo

I think it is interesting how just the size of the breast makes the difference between concubine and lady in waiting. It also shows the pressure these girls are under by their family. I love how the show address the grooming of these women to help their family with power. I think that papabro is beginning to get the idea of what someone like MaoMao is worth and what she ( and others like her) could do. I also think that Papabro may know of Jinishi fascination with with her. I wanted to slap Lady Shen when she insulted Goshen

LoreleiS

yoo who is this character i should watch this!!!

Cyber_JokerWTF

Glad you were surprised by the turn this show took with Shenlu knowing about Maomao being able to make medicine. Seeing how she is in this episode does change the way you think of her character in the previous episode. She likely just saw Maomao previously as a servant trying to delay returning to work, and not someone under Consort Gyokuyou's protection who has an avid interest in everything medicinal. I love how protective Yinghua is of Maomao around Shenlu, but also her way of trying to avoid another incident like when Maomao followed her nose to find all those scents in the Crystal Pavilion 🤣 But I do feel for Yinghua. It wasn't that long ago that Maomao was warning Shisui about showing bugs to others as it could be seen as bullying. I definitely feel like the lizard's self-amputation of its tail should come under this umbrella warning too, especially as I believe in some cases (due to the nerves) the tail can remain twitching for a bit after it has fallen off 😂 Maomao needing to research the lizard's tail so as to make the medicine she thought about in the previous episode...how to grow back what the eunuchs have lost because that could make her rich, I love her 🤣 I really do love the lack of focus on Maomao in her disguise until she full on approaches Lady Shin. Its like we're getting the lead up to that moment all from Lady Shin's perspective. And with her praising the nobility background of all the court ladies in the Crystal Pavilion, to me, it reads as an example of her snobbish behaviour. All that she needs to consider about Maomao is her height, but she's not anyone of importance so the rest of who Maomao is doesn't matter to Lady Shin. Until Maomao speaks up and she realises just who exactly the "tall court lady" is. Gotta applaud the quack doctor for his role in discovering the sick servant. Poor man is definitely not the bravest soul, as seen with how hesitant and unsure he was after Lady Shin first shut down him wanting to visit Consort Lihua. But he found the courage to run through the Pavilion whilst Maomao detained Lady Shin, in order to help the sick servant 🥺 Gotta love that two of the times Maomao's temper has flared have been in relation to the ladies in the Crystal Pavilion 🤣 But I just adore that it was Consort Lihua taking charge this time when it came to doling out the slaps 😂💙 Loved it even if it did mean a much more lenient sentence for Lady Shin (banishment opposed to a potential death sentence for attempting to kill the Emperor's progeny). Also Maomao telling it like it is; that Lady Shin coveted the position of empress not of being the Emperor's concubine or wife and so her "love" for the Emperor is less genuine than Consort Lihua's 🥰 I can completely relate to Maomao on not wanting to use such a fine silk handkerchief to dab at her cuts. As a child I got nosebleeds very frequently. Once it happened when I was out with my maternal Nanny who never carried tissues but instead would have at least three handkerchiefs on her person when she went out. Because it was a special day out for us she had brought out her really nice silk handkerchiefs my Granda had bought her for their twelfth wedding anniversary. One of them was stained beyond repair, and the other two took several treatments and wash cycles to clean. I can only imagine it would be next to impossible for Maomao to get blood out of such cloth during this time period. Yay for avoiding the doomed yuri!!! 🥳 Considering earlier in the episode she tried to go against Lady Shin's commands about the shed it really shows just how much that young servant girl cared for the sick one 🥺 I believe the letter Shenlu was sending may be the "summons" Consort Gyokuyou received requesting Maomao. It would be the more proper way of asking something of a concubine of Consort Gyokuyou's level than simply verbally asking Ailan to pass the request on. Yes Ailan might be given more details verbally on why Shenlu wants to speak with Maomao, especially with it being in regards to medicine Shenlu (for Maomao's sake [and possibly Consort Gyokuyou's with Maomao being considered one of her people]) may not want written evidence of what she wishes to speak to Maomao about. No it wasn't Lady Shin who planted the bushes in the Crystal Pavilion. With her appearing with the same white blossoms at the end I thought that was showing us that it was our little servant girl who wanted to help her fellow servant that planted the bushes by the shed for the feng shui meaning. It was just incidental that such bushes can also be used in abortifacients.

Anime Annie

It's been awhile since I posted, but wanted to post a few things finally for season 2. It has been discussed how the emperor banned having more eunuchs and now that women cannot make medicine as they cannot be doctors and only doctors are allowed to make medicine. I have not read anything of this series, I have only watched the anime but I am thinking that the series may be changing one of those two issues and its not the eunuch policy. I, like you, enjoy it when MaoMao's "dander" get up and she takes a hard line. I really enjoy Lihua as a character as well. She is a strong, compassionate and kind woman. Even though Shin betrayed her, by having her exiled from the rear palace, she may have actually saved her life. I say this because it was said "Be treated as if you murdered the emperor's child" which is easily seen as capital offense resulting in death. Both Lihua and Gyokuyou are well fitted to be an empress. You could say the emperor is lucky in that regard. A side note, you mentioned only 6 more episodes left in the season. I think we have a different way of viewing things. This season is 24 episodes (according to ANN) with no break running from winter to spring seasons. To me, I just view that as a 24 episode single season and not two twelve episode seasons. I am an oddball that way, but I enjoy being different haha.

C. D.

the head lady in waiting is the same one who threw out the flower that had details about the white face powder in episode 1 which would have saved lihuas son..that one slap was not enough💀
