Wen KeXing is ever the social butterfly at the Sanbai Mountain Villa, but while Zhou Zishu would like to stay uninvolved, there are mysterious and sinister manipulations a foot, and everyone is suspect - ghost or otherwise!
We also meet my new favorite ghost, have some shocking revelations, and Wen KeXing might actually need some rescuing from Zhou Zishu! Oh, the tables are turning!

Translation is such a wild thing! It’s truly an art form and there’s always something “lost in the sauce” whenever it gets translated from one language to the next. But the introvert vs extrovert comparison is spot on! With the flirting, maybe it’s a good thing telepathy isn’t allowed in this! My mother and I LOVE peacocks, but they are noisy! And ooohhh the connection BL is really on point with that reference, too! 😛 Luckily, this series has a plethora of female characters in comparison to other BL series! And yes, the Alluing Ghost is so beautiful and I love her already! Show, no death flags!! And yes to the joker reference in full force! OUR LITTLE CHENGLING - WKX’s ready to play House! I could totally see ZZS cutting his robes later as a way to “balance” or make lighter of the cut sleeve reference, but WE KNOW. WKX also out there like, “I’m just a widdle guy…no harm at all…” SURE JAN. Gong Jun’s acting skills are honestly off the charts in this show! Also, the Erhu! Love it! The coffin house was soooo creepy! I love the effects of the location and on the Drug Men! That is neat to know about the paper animals! There are a lot of characters and names to keep track of, but I love it! I can definitely see the Game of Thrones reference! I may have to make a chart to keep track of everyone! That’s not a bad idea! This series is SO good and I cannot wait to get into Episode 6! It’s one of my favorites! Thank you for the comment!

And that is a VERY good point - that’s kind of why I’m not TOO invested in making sure I know each and every character’s name yet, because there’s a good chance they won’t be around after this week, haha! That IS interesting how he calls WKX depending on how he wants to associate with him in the moment, whereas WKX is much more straight forward with Ah-Xu! WKX is too charming for the tactics he’s using, hahaha! That’s hilarious! And yesssss, WKX’s antics are working - those tiny moments where ZZS lets his guard down and smiles at him? SLAIN. DEAD. A HUMAN PUDDLE. And the fact that he can’t meet his eyes - the SUBTLETY! That is really sad about the censors targeting popular shows; I imagine that’s maybe why TGCF’s live action is taking so long? And as BeHappy pointed out they do translate things a little differently across all three of them. For the term Gu Xiang calls Zhou Zishu in the Netflix subtitles it gets translated to "sick man". As to the use of the word "ranger" I am the same in that it immediately makes me think of Strider/Aragorn 🥰 If Zhou Zishu and Wen Ke Xing could communicate telepathically I imagine they'd be dissing so many of the gathered people for the faces the show in public, but also Wen Ke Xing would definitely abuse it and flirt even more incessantly with Zhou Zishu! 🤣 Agree on peacocks being very noisy birds. There's one that likes to hang out on the castle wall that is across a busy road from my dentist and I can continually hear it over the sound of traffic and the radio playing in my dentist's office 🤣 Also Zhao Jin just having peacocks and no peahens could be, and is likely, an aesthetic choice given all his use of colour and richness in the decoration of his home, but it does make me think of some BL where there are either no female characters or an extreme dearth of them 😆 Massive death flag when it's an older character giving praise to the children and hoping they live a good life 🥺 Zhou Zishu and Wen Ke Xing are definitely an introvert and an extrovert going to a party 😆 First time I saw this I was like "Ooh so the Joker killed Master Ao Laizi and his disciples!" 😅 The Alluring Ghost (which Netflix translates to the Beauty Ghost) going after someone who killed a woman he promised to marry and their unborn child definitely made me like her so much 😁 But then to see how she looks and all the women around her, and how she treats them, definitely made me like her all the more and want to know more about her character. Also the face ability she has is very intriguing. I just adore Wen Ke Xing calling Chengling "our little Chengling" 🤣 That cutsleeve moment 🥰 Word of Honour was definitely much more overt with that reference in comparison to The Untamed 🤣 I do wonder if Zhou Zishu cutting the bottom of his robe later on in the episode because of the Drug Men's blood was there way of waving the arms at the censors and being like "it's not symbolism for this being a danmei" 🤭 Wen Ke Xing calling himself a tiny cicada in reference to the cicada 😂 Yeah sure Wen Ke Xing. After seeing him kill the Beggar Group I'm sure he's just terrified without Zhou Zishu by his side 🙄 Door meet Zhou Zishu's boot 😆 Man has no time for talking niceties or using door handles 😂 I believe the main instrument being used for the creepy music is an erhu. It's one of my favourite Chinese instruments and can produce such amazing music for something that has only two strings. As much as I do love The Untamed I have to say I do adore Word of Honour's sets and costumes more. But I especially love how creepy they made the Coffin Home and the Drug Men. The Untamed didn't quite get the same creepy vibe with Yi City or the Fierce Corpses. Gong Jun just knocks it out of the park this episode with how he acts like a pouty little child when under the influence of the drug in the Coffin Home. Romania: There's a lot going on... Yeah, soooo much information given each episode as they give us an ever-increasing cast to try to keep track off/get completely lost with. Honestly reminds me a tad of the Game of Thrones' book series with how characters and their family and lineage continually get introduced 😅 Also several reactors I've watched for Mo Dao Zu Shi have referred to a chart before to keep track of all the characters we get in the donghua and how they're related and to who. I do have to say it makes me laugh a little at them trying to keep track of all these characters 😆 If I remember right from Mo Dao Zu Shi the paper animals are used as part of funeral ceremonies. They are offerings made to liberate a soul from purgatory or fulfil the needs of the soul in the underworld. Just like the paper money that is also burned in offering. But I believe the animals and other items are only used during the funeral ceremony itself, whereas the paper money is also burned in remembrance of the dead on significant days for the dead. Definitely agree that in a live action of SVSSS Qin Huaizhang's actor, Gong Zhengnan, would fit so well for the amenable way Yue Qingyuan is described to look.

I mean, who can resist? People are also dying like flies here 😭 I remember being like "Oh they have their name on the screen, probably important characters I need to remember" then they just straight up dead in the next scene 😭

Because if they release episodes at a normal pace, people can discuss each episode online, making it more popular. Instead, they pushed out as many episodes as possible, so people had to catch up and silence the discussion. Also, if they get everything out and it gets taken down, then people would still have downloaded all of them already. I really appreciate their effort lmao

2025-02-27 22:27:55 +0000 UTC'Lao Wen' is ZZS's equivalent to 'Ah Xu', basically implying that they're close. It's more respectful than 'Ah Xu', probably because ZZS isn't quite as shameless as WKX so 'Ah Xing' was off the table lol. From what I understand it's also a way for wives to refer to their husbands but I'm not sure if they still do that or if it's a historical thing. The Viki subs translate it to 'Old Wen' from here which I find a little off-putting but overall they're fine (I personally prefer the Youku subs but I get that you don't want to switch subs mid-series, I hate doing that too). I don't know if you noticed but at this point ZZS has called WKX by 4 different names; Master Wen, Brother Wen, Philantrophist Wen and Lao Wen. You can more or less tell how he feels about WKX/how much he's letting his guard down and when he wants to create more distance based on which name he uses. He's been doing that since they met, it's pretty interesting if you pay attention to it. I like how WKX just reuses compliments when he's trying to suck up to people but nobody cares because he's so charming. Zhao Jing definitely heard him say the same thing to both Shen Shen and Yu Qiu Feng (the guy with the mustache and goatee) and possibly a dozen other people as well but didn't say anything lol You can tell that WKX already wore ZZS down a little. He helps him escape, doesn't deny that he did it because they're close, willingly tells him information, ends up playing along with his "game", isn't as dismissive as usual and actually wants him to come with him. He also clearly finds him at least a little bit endearing at the end there. I love that moment when WKX excitedly asks him if it's sweet and ZZS nods and smiles at him, it's so cute. I'm just noticing on rewatch but ZZS tends to avoid direct eye contact with WKX, like when he asks WKX who he is while looking vaguely towards the ground. That's probably how he's been able to resist him until now lol. I think the censors were pretty lax because they didn't expect this to become popular. My understanding of how Chinese censors work is that they're not that strict if they don't expect a lot of people to see it, so theoretically if BL was a much smaller niche we could have more with even less censors (there are actually uncensored ones, the most well-known (and last) one being 'Addicted' which was cancelled midway through because it got too popular) Looking forward to the next episode, it's one of my favourites

XD You are very right that everyone here has an agenda. Trying to tease each one of them apart makes for a very compelling puzzle. And yeah, I’m pretty sure no one really knows how WoH got half the things it does past the censors. Just imagine what we could have had for other live action series if only the creators could share their secrets! 😩 Thanks for the video!

I've really been enjoying your reactions so far! Also thought I would let you know — when Zhou Zishu calls Wen Kexing "Lao Wen" this episode, "lao" is a Chinese prefix often used to show closeness/respect. I dont think Zishu has ever called Wen Kexing this before now? (It’s possible he has and it was just translated differently, but i don't think so.) So it’s interesting that he does here now in this moment, when Wen Kexing is in danger. So he called out to him instinctively... Some of his true feelings slipping out perhaps? 😏❤️
