DanDaDan: Episode 6 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

Yesssss, Aira! She COULD be fun, but she needs to back off my Momo x Okarun ship - especially after what she did to him last episode. But she’s definitely delusional; I talk about her potential in this episode and next week’s discussion. We shall see with her as we go. Turbo Granny as the cat is great, though! I love how her expressions are in this! She is so snarky and I love it about her! Agreed on all fronts with that! And yes, the “luck” part is great! It’s just such a great world-building strategy there! I love Okarun figuring out that Momo is cute! And yes, I’m glad that they came together and talked; maybe the missions will make them busy enough to not have to worry about awkwardness for a while! Thank you so much for the comment and kind words! This episode was great! Time for next week - *goes to prepare*

I do like the dynamic of DBZ vs. DandaDan, though I never shipped Goku and Bulma together, but for SURE ship Momo and Ken. Aira as Light and Misa’s love child is SO true!!! That warehouse scene was straight out of Ron Burgundy - “That escalated quickly.” XD I also love the idea that not all spirits know each other - it’s hilarious! And yeah, next week, I guess we find out about that yokai question, eh? *gets tissues ready* Thank you for the comment!

Hahahaha, Aira definitely has magical girl MC vibes! 😛I will say, yeah, at least she is somewhat fearless, although you could say it’s naivete too. The line could be thin, indeed! Ohhh, I didnot know that about her being voiced by Gabi’s VA - that feels VERY appropriate for her character with how she acts in this – maybe I’ll grow to like her like I did Gabi? I will actively choose to not picture these kids fondling poor Ken’s balls! 😛Thank you for the comment!

Ah the main character has arrived, the pretty and kind magical girl Aira is finally here and ready to save the Earth from all dastardly demons, chosen by the very heavens themself for that holy mission. Jokes aside, at least we can say that Aira is... brave? Her first instinct on finding "demons" in her midst was to fight them, or maybe it's just stupidity, they say that line is very thin. And if you haven't looked it up yet she is voiced by the same actress (Ayane Sakura) that voices Gabi in AoT and Fiona Frost in SpyxFamily. All of whom i enjoy immensely as i find Aira hilarious (and did before i found out who voiced her so i wasn't biased by that :P). Yeah i think we can safely say that they didn't see Ken's transformation as their reaction would be rather to subdued if that were the case. And they said nobody else could apparently see the giant crab back in that fight, seems you need some amount of spiritual power to perceive these things, so guess Aira would have been able to see it... at least as long as she was also fondling one of Ken's balls.

Shonen got started with innocent Goku and cool & stylish Bulma off in a quest to collect some golden magic balls, and now 40 years and many, many, many shonen later we're right back Okarun and Momo doing the same. The more things change the more they stay the same. If I had a nickel for every time a girl with an alliterative name starting with M and ending with O, was trying to find a way for her potential love interest to get his family jewels back, I'd have 2 nickels, which is not a lot but it's weird it happened twice. I totally see the Death Note similarity now, Maybe Aira is Light & Misa's secret child. That warehouse scene escalated quickly from 'let's talk' to assault and attempted kidnapping on Aira's part and Momo outright committing attempted murder on those two girls, and all of that before the spirit shows up. Momo assuming all spirits must know each other but instead Turbo Granny has to google who Acrobatic Silky is kind of brilliant. I wonder if it's a real yokai, her fixation on getting called mommy gives me 'La Llorona' vibes tough she drowns rather than eats her victims.

And we have officially met Aira! She's such a trip *lol* Honestly, for as conceited as Aira's character is, she's just so much fun, you know? Like, definitely haven't forgiven her for what she did to Okarun, but seeing how *delusional* she seems to be with her beauty and charm is wild. The little bit of sign language she did with her friends, who appeared so very tired, which is clearly made up for their friend group felt like such a teenage thing to do, genuine and ridiculous, and it's probably one of my favorite things about her and what made me, begrudgingly, not want to rip her hair out through this episode. I am OBSESSED, though, with the way that Turbo Granny is animated in her cat form, it's so darn cute! The wat that all the expressions are precisely that, so very expressive and clear had me rewinding the episode a couple of times to see them again and again; it's a true pleasure to watch. Turbo Granny, in genereal, is such a big mood - as are so many of the characters, and it makes watching her in this cute little cat's body so amusing. Having Turbo Granny inside the lucky cat's body *actually* affect the luck around Momo and Okarun is such a fun way to make that relevant! I'm still raving over that. It's such a tiny, organic thing to bring back up, but it adds a lot of flavor to the whole encounter. Because, yes, what are the chances that the cross was a lighter all along (and the way that was staring us in the face was so wonderfully done) and Acrobatic Silky ended up eating a bit of her hair in the process of eating Momo? Slim. And instead of having you suspend your disbelief over it, the show makes it seem only natural that it would happen. Love it. Okarun only now realizing that Momo is cute is so, well, cute. I mean, I love that up till this point he was happy and focusing on the friendship aspect of it all, that feels healthy for him and normal; but now the idea has been planted and he seems incapable of ignoring it. Cute! I'm glad he didn't ignore Momo all day just because of that, as I half feared he would, even if he isn't telling her anything meaningful yet. Really, this episode just was so much fun, and it kept up the tensions we started the show with so well, when I thought it would sagged at the middle.
