PING PONG The Animation: Episode 8 Full Length Reaction!

This episode was amazing, but should we be surprised? Rule of 8 does not let us down! The time skips are just CRAZY but I’m fine with it, honestly! I love how Wenge played his heart out to respect Peco and himself; he took that loss a lot more gracefully than I expected from him! I just love his character so much. Peco definitely brought the hype and I love where his character has gone in this series; he went from my easily least-favorite of the group now up to the rest of them! Still, seeing Wenge thinking of his mom and realizing it wasn’t the time to go home? Heartbreaking. I LOVE LOVE LOVE how varied and how much screen time the coaches get in this, because they're so closely tied to the players themselves. The whole moment with the shoes in this episode was fantastic! I still GET why Kozuimi didn’t work as much with Peco, because I get it as a coach, but I’m glad that Obaba was able to connect and work with Peco to bring out that talent. And the fact that Wenge is so supportive of his own team? He’s come so far! And yeah, that is a great point about Kong vs. Kozuimi at least in this. There is so much yet to happen, but I’m excited! Thank you for the comment! We shall see where it goes!

There are SO MANY good characters in this show - It’s hard to pick which storyline I like more because they’re so different and equal quality in places! Oooh, that is a great point about Peco’s talent, especially with the beach scene! Thank you for the comment and bringing that up!

My goodness, this episode was so insanely good, I agree. The rule of 8 has yet to let us down, and I'm in love with its latest offering. Having this show already have had a WHOLE year gone by startled me so badly after having shows like Haikyuu that take their sweet time to go through a school year XD I loved it. We truly follow them on their journey and can see them evolve so much this way. Wenge giving it his ALL even when he knew that he wouldn't beat Peco, also seems like a great display of healthy competitiveness. He didn't quit or throw the towel, he didn't disrespect Peco either by not doing his best just because his loss was imminent, and it only made my heart break all the more knowing he lost. I agree that seeing Peco rise to the occasion and display how much he has grown and learned was SO HYPE and fun, but it warred with seeing Kong have the opportunity to go back to his mom and country slip through his fingers so soon after the tournament started. I was elated and with my heart broken into a million pieces. Seeing Kong's translator, though, come to Japan to see him play was a lovely little moment. The varied ways that we see both, the coaches, react in this episode and the captains was so fun. Kazama, making his team look silly by not wearing the mat shoes that he himself endorsed in that commercial, dismissively just sticking to what he knows and weakening the morale of his team in the process; and Wenge, who does not buy the shoes either because he knows they'll make no difference, but instead of making his team feel silly and dumb for buying into it and acquiring them, he reassures them that as long as *they* feel confident in them, then good shoes will serve them well effectively rising the morale in his team. The dichotomy is wonderful, as always. And then we have Obaba telling Koizumi that he had given up on Peco, and that made me feel very vindicated *lol* Yes, I might not totally blame him for hyper-focusing on Smile, the one player with somewhat compromise and who he could see had talent, and not the player who lacked any kind of discipline, by almost never being at practice either way, even if he didn't see the talent in him, but it did seem to agree with my uncomfortableness that Koizumi could have shaped the whole of Katase's team into something more had he tried. And, to be honest, seeing Wenge be so proud and reassured that his team has improved and will do well in the tournament also felt like the show was driving that point home. I mean, Wenge got involved with his team and trained them, sure, he knows they aren't exceptional or anything, but he did help them, by being there, to become better players; his cheer and support did a difference in them, something that sadly Koizumi didn't truly do with Katase; Kong telling that one teammate that who knows if there is talent buried in him made me glow with pride for him and also smile so hard. WE HAVE CONFIRMATION THAT PECO IS THE HERO AND SMILE THE ROBOT! I think the roles suit them both so well, with Peco being so emotional and Smile not so much, and I can't wait to see where that whole thing leads to. Considering we have three episodes left, I really don't know what will happen in the tournament. I mean, so far, these tournaments have been pretty fast, so I really don't know what to think. What I do know, is that Ping-Pong is AMAZING, and I'm glad that I can go back to liking Peco now that he is not being a bum and is putting his talent and ability to good use.

Too many good characters in this show. All of the characters are so good in this even if they barely have any screen time. Kong is also a favorite character of mine and it's sad to see him lose. Also, Peco's talent has been foreshadowed in a couple points before this. Obaba said how he was growing in the middle of the match doing new stuff. Another example would be on episode 5(I think) when he was at the beach, Peco saw someone surf and he copied what the guy did and did it even better. It just goes to show how talented Peco is so when he puts in the work he can take down elite players such as Kong
