Land of the Lustrous: Manga Volume 9 Reaction!

*CHANGING HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

This series just gets wilder, more intense, and more heartbreaking as we go! Phos has fully turned from Kongo and is on the war path to work with the Lunarians...but what is the cost of working with the moon people? And who is going to forever change from learning the truth and from temptation?

My jaw was on the FLOOR for this volume - I was not prepared for the twists and turns...and I have a feeling we're not done yet! Just getting started, eh?

Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

Land of the Lustrous: Manga Volume 9 Reaction!

This manga from here on in is a descent into MADNESS! I definitely feel Bort was projecting their own anger onto the other gems in that moment; it’s not right and not a great excuse, at ALL, but I can see what they were doing. Yeah, there is a lot “woulda coulda shoulda” in this series! It reminds me a lot of AOT, where people didn’t say what needed to be said until after the fact and it was too late. T_T That said, I do really love Euclace, they’re one of my favorites so far! I feel Phos was trying to be genuine, but they still held back information which as we know - doesn’t lead to good things happening in the long run in a narrative. This entire series has taken such a dark turn from here! It’s really heartbreaking to see them all in disarray. The whole scene with Cairngorm was honestly straight up HORROR. I definitely don’t trust Aechmea at all. I’ve seen too many anime characters like him! Hahaha!! And yeah, the fact that that part of Cairngorm was supposedly the remnants of Ghost Crystal? So sad! The gems fighting each other makes me sick! 🙁It’s so sad! I don’t like seeing them all fight each other. Again, very AOT! I hate the concept that Phos doing this knows that they have no salvation for themselves…ugh. Depression with Gemstones is NOT FUN. But onto the next volume, right?! Thank you for the comment!

And the descent into madness (meaning, just the craziness of it all) continues. How fun *laughs nervously* This volume certainly had some unexpected developments for me. I mean, I was not expecting how mad I felt at Bort for the way they were talking about the other gems. Sure, I can understand everyone being mad at Phos for taking the other gems with them to the moon, and the devastating shock that was for EVERYONE involved. But Bort calling them the "weak" gems made me so mad. Because the gems that went with Phos were the ones that didn't quite fit in the gemstones society or didn't feel comfortable in it anymore, and Bort, who was the epitome of it with their strength and prowess calling them weak really rankled me. In a story that has talked so much about how you can only be considered worth it or equal if you fit in, and in this society that is if you are strong it really felt like more commentary over it. And then, unexpectedly, Adamant, whom I love so much as a character and have been feeling pretty sympathetic towards, decided to finally make an effort and tell *something* to the leftover gemstones; now, after things have collapsed so terribly. And thinking how IF HE HAD ONLY TRIED to give this much sincerity to Phos maybe things would not have gone so terribly, maybe they would not have felt so betrayed by Adamant they would have involved more gemstones in their plans and things could have gone so incredibly differently... because, yes, Adamant isn't able to give the full truth, but we see how even this cobbled together version IS SO IMPACTFUL that it COULD have made a difference if he had only shared earlier. Ugh, this one frutrates me a lot, I'll be honest. Euclace being amazing with their reaction to Adamant's words was great, and I loved that moment, but the whole of Adamant's story time I was lowkey fuming with indignation. Now, as for Phos, I do think that they genuinely were trying to make the gems see that going to the moon was not going to be fun and wanted them to be sure of their decision by telling them there was still time, and room for them to change their mind and stay. After all, it was one thing to hear these vague stories from Phos, and another all together to be inside one of the lunarians' scary "sunspots" and in the comoany of a lunarian, that was a completely different reality, and Phos giving them an opening for leaving felt to me very genuine. Honestly, though, this volume just wasn't very happy, was it? Seeing pretty much ALL the gems crack from the position Phos put them in was heartbreaking. Really, going from the gems on the moon, cracking under the realization that their friends were grounded into dust, to the gems that stayed on the Earth, cracking over their friends' betrayal and abandonment had my stomach falling from within me and for the biggest sentiment of dread to grow inside me. But of course, the awful realizatins couldn't end there, and having Aechmea telling Caingorm about Ghost controlling their actions through *their freaking eye* only for them to very creepily and horrically been dragged by Ghost' ghost (how does that even work???) and then have Aechmea save them... I'm still not a hundred percent sure I believe everything Aechmea says, though the fact that he healed Pad does speak in his favor, but that whole scene chilled my bones. And now we have a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT Caingorm?! I miss the Caingorm that was Phos's fiercest, most reluctant friend. Plus, commentary on identity and value with Caingorm? Could it be that there is some, much, of that in here in ways that are just such an interesting contrast to Phos? Maybe. The final confrontation between Phos and the other gems was so sad. What do you mean that they waited for them to come from the moon and ambushed them to really hurt them? What do you mean they broke Phos like this, into tiny pieces. Just them fighting each other feels so wrong, not to speak of them hurting each other. While that was simply decent, fun action, it felt very horrible and chilling to me. Oh! And let's not forget the *Absolutely devastating* way that Phos says that while they might be able to put the other gems back together, them, a gem of barely 3.5 resistance, is not an option for it got me hard. Until then, they had only being talking about everyone else, but that's the first moment they talk about themselves and the blank hollowness with which they say it makes me think it has being eaten them inside out. So, yeah, definitely fun times with this manga *lol* But it never fails to be amazing at every devastating turn.

Right?! I honestly am as well! Especially with Cairngorm! I don't trust Aechmea to save my life, but I love their fashion! Thank you for the comment!

That fight was so heartbreaking! We know that Pad has wanted Rutile to leave them and “move on” past them but yeah, that is a neat note about Rutile wanting to be the one to repair Pad, and that being their purpose. That is an interesting point! These gems and their deep, darker thoughts! Thank you for the comment!

Thank you so much for the comment! And yessssss, I'm just so invested in this series but it is a roller coaster! I am terrified to see where this leads to!

There's so much to say about this volume, but to me one of the most interesting things was Rutiles and Padparadschas fight. To me atleast, Rutiles continued aggression even after seeing Padpa recovered says a lot about them. Rutile wanted *them* to be the one to repair Padpa, and them being repaired has stripped Rutile of their only purpose.Rutile obviously cares and loves Padpa but I think there's an almost obsessive selfishness in them needing to be the one to fix them. Rutile says in this volume that they want to "to reclaim that gems worth *with my own hands.*"
