Delicious in Dungeon FULL MENU: Episode 16! ONIGIRI FROM THE EASTERN MEAL!

So, this week, I prepare some Onigiri as seen in Episode 16 of Dungeon Meshi! I made a lot of these during "Shelter in Place" in 2020...but I maaaay have forgotten a crucial step in this process...

...we also play a fun game proposed by patron L Freya! Thank you!

NOTE: Also, apologies for the severe close up! I literally only had lip gloss on and forgot my glasses, so I was really self-conscious in editing - apparently my brother saw no problem as such!

Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

I should have rinsed it - I did that all the time back during the pandemic when I made it - of course, apparently not making it in a few years makes a difference, haha!! Paella sounds interesting! Thank you for the link! That is so interesting with cooking with squid - I’m so used to that seeming like an “exotic” dish. Ooohhh nooo, that sickness sounds horrible! I could SO see Miso Soup being helpful if you’re sick! I’m not much of a tofu person, but the straight broth, I’m sure that was helpful! And I am a MAJOR Ginger Tea with Honey connoisseur - the moment I feel an upset stomach or sore throat, that’s the first thing I go to! Onigiri is just so good! As much as I love ginger tea, ginger ale, ginger beer, haha, I’m not much for “straight ginger.” But I definitely need to invest in a mold…to not burn my hands anymore! That spam sushi is SO interesting!! Thank you for the recipe! I’ve only had spam once in high school and it wasn’t “bad” at least, so I might have to give this a go! I do love Teriyaki flavors! The use of the can is really cool with it, too! I may have to go and get some now! Hahaha!! Just to try it out with all of these! I’m glad you’re feeling better - being sick is just the pits! And thank you for the kind words, comment, and the recipes!

Yup, forgot to rinse the rice! Now, some dishes you do not rinse the rice, you need the starch. An example of this is a paella. I love paella and haven’t had it in years! I should make some…… https://youtu.be/vNBuXsTY15E?si=7vF2heU2yomxgdV9 yup, this is why as a kid, it was my job to clean the squid! 😅 now my mom would also put sausage, fish, and really anything she wanted in it. I always loved the squid and muscles in it! Spanish rice is also made by not washing it. Last week when I was sick, I was like leaking fluids from everywhere! It was truly horrible. It’s going around over here. So both of us were sick and to keep up the electrolyte, we drank mugs of miso soup. It was delicious and went down smoothly! It’s what we needed! We did not put anything else in it, it was straight broth! We had that and lots of tea with ginger and honey. Just a reminder, if you are becoming dehydrated due to illness, drink lots of fluids with salt and sugar for electrolytes! If you just do water or become dehydrated, you can end up in the emergency room. You can drink fruit juice or Gatorade, Pediolyte as well. I love onigiri! I usually do a traditional tuna salad mix with some ginger. We have the onigiri molds to help shape them! Hahaha! I’m terrible at hand shaping them. So, this is another rice “sushi “ offering that is a family favorite around here and it’s something that most people have most of the ingredients to in the pantry. Special ingredients: sushi rice, nori seaweed. For the rice if you can find it, short grained rice will work. Spam Musubi: 1 can spam - your choice of brand, we usually use Ma Ling Chinese spam. Short grained rice - 2 cups Teriyaki sauce Nori Directions: cook rice according to directions. I use a rice cooker and I usually do 2 cups rinsed. If you have extra rice left over, it’s fried rice time! 🥳 Open spam up and save the spam can! This is important! Cut up spam into slices and fry. When done, brush on teriyaki sauce. To make your own teriyaki sauce, mix 1/2 cup water, 1/4 cup soy sauce, 3 teaspoons brown sugar. Warm up in saucepan till sugar dissolves…. Done! Be careful not to use teriyaki sauce in a hot pan, the sugar can burn. You just want to caramelize it, low to medium heat to finish spam. Take can and line with cling wrap leaving plenty to drape over the outside of the can. Take rice and put a layer about an inch at bottom of can and push down or compact at the bottom. Put a slice of teriyaki glazed Spam on top of rice. Take cling wrap and continue to shape. Pull cling wrap out of can, it should stay together. Wrap with nori around the middle and continue to assemble. These are fantastic! I love em as a snack, lunch or anytime I want to impress my co workers! Hahahahaha! https://youtu.be/EuqQfguh7R4?si=WWQBDj8Evx22EQF1 Yes, we always have Spam in the pantry! It goes well with all that rice you made! Fry day old rice, add cubed spam, scrambled eggs, veggies of choice. Voila! Spam fried rice! Always a favorite! Yeah, you made a lot of rice! Plenty for later!
