*TOPSY-TURVY HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

After the last few weeks of kidnappings, family drama; death and destruction, this was a MUCH-needed episode of humor, heart, and levity!

Dororo and Hyakkimaru stumble across a small town where - of course - nothing is as it seems...but somehow...Hyakkimaru is going to get MARRIED!? Hold the phone, y'all! Let's talk about this!

DORORO: Episode 19 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

Hyakkimaru learns an adorable expression of their feelings and then it leads to shenanigans! Ooohhh, that is a fair point about purifying from the human blood! Nice! BUT THE HUG TO DORORO at the end!? ADORABLE! Okowa was really down for being Hyakkimaru’s wife! Good for her, right?! The buildup of the “Opposite Day” trope was really funny in this and adds more context to what Hyakkimaru says especially in this as well. THat also makes more sense with the translation on the pear! At least the miscommunication trope kind of was “okay” throughout this episode with how they blended it with the humor and mystery of the episode. But YES, the levity was NEEDED this week…and has me a little worried for the weeks to come! *nervous laughter* Hahahaha…I mean, JUKAI COULD HAVE IT ALL if he really got done with, you know, atoning for his sins and all. ;) There are businesses that could be created! 😛I couldn’t help it, though! The significance of the tenugui makes a lot more sense!! Thank you for explaining that! As does the liquid mud! Thank you for the comment and all the information about that! I appreciate it!

Yes! hahahaha, we most certainly needed an episode of complete levity after all the zaniness the last several weeks! Thank you for the comment!

It’s Opposite Day! Yeah, we needed this episode! 😅

I did laugh at you saying Dororo should makes sure Hyakkimaru doesn't do the cute gesture to a person otherwise they'll get the wrong idea. Basically a large reason for so many of the things that happen this episode 🤣 I always thought Munetsuna wanted to purify Hyakkimaru's swords not because he killed demons with them but rather because he spilled human blood with them. The term Okowa uses that the subtitles translated to "master of the house", "danna-sama", is also a very polite and formal way that a wife can refer to her husband 😆 Okowa was already living her fantasy of being Hyakkimaru's wife. I really love the way they build-up the story in this episode to the reveal that everything they've been saying (bar Munetsuna and Okowa) is the opposite of what they actually meant/wanted to say. Though it also then changes how you think of all the lines they said, like Hyakkimaru saying "Dororo looked happy" when she ran out of the inn 🥺 That hug Hyakkimaru gave Dororo was full of so many emotions 🥺 Also love his relief that Dororo was okay led to him initiating such a hug. I'm not 100% on the translation for the reason Dororo and Okowa give to Hyakkimaru for why he shouldn't rub his head against others. But the random British slang of "go pear-shaped" is what made me listen to it over and over to work out what was actually said in Japanese. In Japanese they say: naze mo hechima mo nai, which I could not make sense of when translating to English. Apparently it's a shortened form of a phrase from that time period that basically means "Nothing good will come of it". Hyakkimaru being confused about the term "hechima" though was definitely how I felt when trying to work out what they'd said as it translates to "gourd" or "loofah" 🤣 Given that Hyakkimaru only recently got his hearing it's understandable that he's still learning the meaning of words and phrases like that. The wonders Amanojaku making everyone say the opposite can do for your feelings regarding the miscommunication trope 🤣 Definitely needed the levity of this episode after the last couple of episodes. Had to pause when your NSFW brain took over in regards to what prosthetics Hyakkimaru has that could have an affect on his marriage with Okowa 😏🤣 But your thinking of people using toys led my brain down to the territory of Jukai making said parts (and what a lucrative business he'd have) 😂 The cultural significance of the tenugui hand towel Dororo wears is the Japanese equivalent to the Western version of a thief wearing a balaclava/ski mask. I believe the stuff Munetsuna coats Hyakkimaru's katana in is basically liquid mud. I'm not too au fait about techniques for reforging katana (though I do plan to visit a katana museum on my next trip to Japan so maybe that will help me learn more), but I believe the metal has to be melted down and reforged to fix it in the way that we see the new blades look. Logically I think the liquid mud smeared along the metal works as a kind of mould (once it sets) to help keep the metal contained within it when it is heated.
