I have not wanted to give someone a hug like I've wanted to give Lishu a hug! I feel so bad for her having to deal with these ladies in waiting! Luckily for Lishu, Jinshi is feeling his oats after the "frog incident" and is ready to take some of that pent up frustration out in the name of justice!
Meanwhile...there are lots of things that are getting set up and this show has the GALL to leave us on THAT moment?! How dare!

Hahaha, MaoMao keeps imagining and correcting herself on Mr. Frog - further cementing her as an unreliable narrator! ;) MaoMao also would rather not think about how bold Mr. Frog’s…owner…has become in being able to say her name. Hoo boy! Gyokuyou is going to need to get more creative in her teasing and Gaoshun needs to contemplate more investments for retirement! Gaoshun at least helping her is so sweet and I love that their relationship has grown so much over the series! I definitely cannot stand Lishu’s ladies in waiting and how they write her off just because she’s young! She’s one of THE four main consorts, regardless of how the Emperor is (luckily) not interested sexually in her. Lishu is such a sweetie and needs all the hugs alongside Xiaolan! That is really interesting about the tie between Lishu and MaoMao! I hadn’t thought of that! AHEM - The way Jinshi’s voice deepened and got serious as well? MaoMao was taking notes! It’s wild when you think that Jinshi is one step away from having some serious power in this story…maybe further proof that he and MaoMao don’t need such power, it’d be too much! XD And yes, Patreon has clarified about SuiRei at this point and I’ll talk about it in a future episode! But thank you for letting me know, too! And ahahahaha - the way in Episode 16 I compare Jinshi to Liam Neesan in Taken and you point out Lakan as that, here - but how I think Jinshi and Lakan are similar! IT’S GREAT! Prior to that she did also say it was a "huge secret" which sent my mind firmly to the gutter 😏🤣 For Jinshi to pull out his first "Maomao" in this moment though? 🥰 Just shocking Consort Gyokuyou, Hongniang, and Gaoshun on the progress in their relationship, of which Maomao seems determined to pretend hasn't happened 😆 I love that they had Kanan having seen the "ghost" too. While Consort Lishu should have been believed in for having seen something, it definitely helps for another person to have witnessed it. Further adds to my anger at Consort Lishu's other ladies because they shouldn't be able to waive it off as a young girl's fanciful imagination 🤬 I love how on it Gaoshun is for helping Maomao, but also how Maomao is able (and willing) to ask for his help/assistance to be able to find the proof that backs up her working theory on why the curtain was moving. It's such a great way to show their relationship and Gaoshun's trust in Maomao that she's asking for such things for good reason. Consort Lishu is definitely a sweetheart that needs to be protected 🥺 I definitely wanted to give her a hug when she thought her mother's ghost was scolding her after Maomao's explanation. I cheered though when Jinshi was able to find a way to bring the ex-head lady-in-waiting down a peg in such a way that wouldn't reflect badly on Consort Lishu. But the way his voice deepened when he rebuked her? 😍🥵 I don't know if anyone has said, but Maomao only met Suirei after she was brought to work in the outer court. As such Suirei likely wouldn't have met any of the workers from the rear palace. And in Season 1 there was only one moment that Jinshi and Gaoshun may have seen Suirei, but she was within a group of other court ladies ganging up on Maomao for working directly for Jinshi. And that encounter Maomao had with Suirei would likely not have been memorable to Jinshi and Gaoshun in the same manner as it's more likely their focus would have been on what Maomao said about Jinshi to the court ladies instead of who said court ladies were specifically. Maomao, however, met Suirei on several occasions that each left quite the impression. Consort Lishu's backstory is definitely very tragic, but I do see a little bit of mirroring with her birth mother and Maomao's birth mother, Fengxian. Because of the pregnancy/birth Consort Lishu's mother was unable to dance afterwards, and because she got pregnant with Maomao Fengxian suffered a fallen status within her role as a courtesan and as a result contracted syphilis. The difference between Consort Lishu and Maomao however is that the former has a more emotional connection with her departed mother in comparison to how Maomao is about Fengxian. Romania (about Lakan to Jinshi): If you hurt my daughter, I will make you a eunuch. So Lakan is Liam Neesan's character in Taken 🤣

And seriously -- I think maybe...it's better we DON'T find out what Lakan did to his father and half-brother - sometimes the imagination is just as intriguing or even more creative than the truth. ;) Thank you for the comment!

This episode really made me feel like Lishu needs to be protected. Dude, I cannot wait to find out what Laken did to his father and half brother, because I have a feeling it was in retaliation to separate him from MaoMao and her mother.

So we know Ah-Duo was a mother figure to Lishu and we know Jinshi looked at the current Emperor as a father figure. Both of them may have run into each other throughout the growing up. Lishu needs to be protected and I think Jinshi see that. Why would the current Emperor bring her back… I think it to protect her from something. Maybe her asshole Family. ( I mean he knows her family sold her young to his father.) The difference is this young girl helped Ah-Duo heal from the death of her child. I think that what made her different from the other girls. I hope they flesh that out at some point.
