WORD OF HONOR: Episode 14 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

RIGHT?! What we're getting through the censors I am so thankful for! "It do be gay and fabulous" - I am here for it as well! I'm loving this series so much and cannot wait to get more into it! Thank you for the comment and kind words!

This is such an amazing series! Can't believe so much love between the main characters were able to get through the censorship, but I'm so glad it did. Honestly, if all Chinese bromances had the same amount of "censors on vacation" as this one, that would be more than enough for most viewers to see it as BL in my opinion. Just have to be grateful for getting such a series, cus damn... It do be gay and fabulous (and I'm here for it!). Also I can't get over how lovable so many of the characters are... It's truly one of my favorite series of all time.

HAHAHAH, just when I thought one cliffhanger was the worst it could get, right?! Gong Jun is just So. Darn. Good. He’s so amazing in this episode! Well, ZZS’s actor is honestly, as well! The emotion is just high level this week! I hate that Gu Xiang has to lose the women she saved, which proved WKX right to be wary of her saving them…but then there’s the phrase, “Better to have love and lost than never loved at all” – I just hate that everyone is in pain this episode! T_T I just love that I can incorporate a Sweeney Todd crossover in this! That’s super interesting about Cao Weining and WeiXu, thank you for noting that for me! I love that Yu QiuFeng didn’t choose the armor but rather to help her regardless! I LOVE that line about the feeling of men and the lives of women! It’s SUCH a good line and YES a quite relatable one! I just love that we start the Heroes Conference with CHAOS! And yesssss, WangXian and WenZhou are sooo similar! But yes, I’m hopeful that ZZS will figure out how much WKX loves him just like Wei WuXian did with LWJ; it’s just a matter of time! Thank you so much for the comment and kind words!

Romania at the beginning of this reaction (in regards to Episode 13): That cliffhanger was murder! My condolences for the double whammy for the cliffhanger this episode too 😆 Gong Jun is so good at you knowing the pain underneath his smiles when Wen Ke Xing tells Ye Bai Yi that he can kneel for three months 😭 The cresting music as Wen Ke Xing cries about being unable to save Zhou Zishu perfectly helps the emotional moment truly hit you 🥺 The women Gu Xiang asks after are the women she saved on the boat, and Wen Ke Xing told her she'd be better letting them go. Just a further pain for our sweet girl. And then for her to go crying to Wen Ke Xing but finding him just so empty and lost over Zhou Zishu 😭 Huang He talking about roasting chicken as a metaphor for his revenge after you singing "Wait" made me laugh 😂 The Chinese term Cao Weining uses to refer to Weixu is "Da Shixiong" which refers to him being his oldest senior martial brother. Neither your subs nor Netflix's translated the title, though your subs at least referred to him as Brother Weixu, whereas Netflix's subtitles simply put Weixu every time Cao Weining said "Da Shixiong". Liu Qianqiao offering the Glazed Armour to Yu Qiufeng, but him telling her he owes her definitely raised him in my opinion [pleading] But I definitely agree with you that that line "The feelings of men are fleeting while the lives of women are fleeting" is such a great line. In the Netflix subtitles it gets translated to: "It's easy for men to be unfaithful yet difficult for women to live on." A lot of pain wrapped up in that one sentence, but a truly relevant sentiment both within the fictional universe of Word of Honour and within the real world in too many instances. The reveal of everyone gathering, and the crowd just slowly getting bigger and bigger, just ramps up the tension of the scene so much more as you question when so many characters appeared on the scene. Likening Wen Ke Xing to Lan Wangji in how willing both would be to kneel to someone if it helped their loved one made me think of how similar Zhou Zishu and Wei Wuxian are in their seeming lack of understanding at just how much Wen Ke Xing/Lan Wangji love them (or rather at least Wei Wuxian before he finally got a clue that Lan Wangji adored him in all his iterations 😆) 🥰

Still one of my favorite episodes (mostly speaking of the first half, as I agree that it should've been a part of the previous episode) I feel like my exact thoughts have already been expressed by Pancake and Visascake so I wanted to touch up on the poetry instead. The first of the two poems Wen Kexing recites on the bridge comes from one of the oldest collections of Chinese poetry - Shijing (Also known as The Classic of Poetry or the Book of Odes). It is a collection of 305 works dating from the 11th to 7th centuries BC so it's OOOLD. Anyway, since it's so old, the poem has a lot of interpretations, but one of them is about a woman waiting for her husband and feeling happy at finally seeing him, so there's that. We see you Wen Kexing. If I remember correctly it can also be a commentary about finding a refined and cultured person in a dark society, which also fits extremely well considering Wen Kexing's hatered for "the rightous" Jianghu (martial arts world). The second poem is original, so even grief stricken Wen Kexing was not only pulling out his pretty crier card but also coming up with poetry on the spot lmao. This whole episode is so dramatic but in the best of ways, I love it. And here comes the Yu Boya and Zhong Ziqi paralels again. We already got a taste of it with the 4 sages of Anji when one of them broke his zither after losing his soulmates. Here Wen Kexing breaks his flute after finding out that HIS soulmate doesn't have much time left to live. We love to see it.

Hooo boy, what an episode. I keep coming back to it whenever I want something angsty and heartbreaking. The argument between them was handled so well. It needed to happen, and only time and more communication can heal it. I get both sides, which makes it hurt even more. ZZS spent so long living without agency that he chose death in three years just to finally taste freedom. He does want to live, you see it in his hopeful reaction when YBY offers him ten more years, but losing his martial arts feels like losing himself. He’s already in the acceptance stage of grief, so giving him hope just feels cruel. ZZS didn’t expect others to understand, but he needed WKX, his soulmate (zhiji) to. That’s why it broke him when WKX said the same things everyone else did. But I fully believe WKX does understand, he understands too well. These men feel like people who, if they can't live by their own will, would rather not live at all. But understanding doesn’t stop you from begging someone to stay. You can’t expect logic here from someone who loves you. Unlike ZZS, WKX just entered the denial stage of grief. He even lies to himself, pretending he hasn’t fallen too hard for ZZS because the pain is too much to bear. Oh I love these idiots. Soulmates and breaking instruments again, huh? The original story of Yu Boya and Zhong Ziqi parallels keep hitting, and it’s so good. Poor poor Gu Xiang, the girl Hong Lu who died was one of the two girls she saved in previous episodes. She insisted to WKX that she would keep them safe and WKX warned her about that... oh well... Even though WKX showed more kindness to the female ghosts than most, he could still be deeply selfish. Whenever his revenge or ZZS were involved, everything else got pushed aside. His bitterness and tunnel vision made him reckless. I actually like this side of his character, it made him feel more human, like someone overwhelmed and lashing out like a hurt, stubborn child. And I love that Alluring Ghost still risked saving Tragicomic Ghost anyway, even after WKX told her not to. Yeah I agree about the Hero Conference, we spent so many episodes building it up, but it still feels like it happened so suddenly. They were still in the middle of cleaning and preparing when everything went south. No fanfare, no opening ceremony, just pure chaos. I think the reason Shen Shen doesn't go after Feng Xiao Feng isn't because he doesn't notice, but because he needs to focus on defending himself against murder accusations right now. FXF is probably using the chaos to his advantage, attacking Shen Shen while everyone’s attention is on the Five Lakes Alliance. Also Gao Chong ordered Shen Shen to chase FXF to bring justice for the Four Sages of Anji, who Gao Chong cares about, but I don't think the others at the conference really care about that. The first person to speak up in Shen Shen's defense is not the leader of the Mount Tai sect, he is the Junior Master of the Gentle Wind Sword Sect. He was the representative, but not the sect leader, since in a previous scene, Cao Weining's senior brother told him the sect leader had to leave last night for some unknown reason.

I was really moved by Zhou Zishu choosing to be himself than to extend his life at the cost of his martial arts. A lot of queer people in the world have to ask themselves what they value more, their safety in the world, or being themselves. So when Zhou Zishu chooses to be himself at the risk of his mortality, it really touched me and I fully understood why. Wen Kexing ordered Liu Qianqiao to just search for Tragicomic Ghost’s sign of life and hold off breaking her out, but when she infiltrates the sect she explicitly thinks to herself that she wants and intends to free Tragicomic Ghost. Qianqiao is very intimidated by Wen Kexing and has prostrated before him a lot, but it seems even she has the nerve to strive for her own selfish desires like the ghost chief himself and changing ghost, I respect her. When I first watched the episode I thought that she must care for Tragicomic ghost more than she’s weary of Wen Kexing in this moment.
