The series is barreling its way towards a climax as Jinshi - ahem - the *crown* prince - shows up with the Royal Guard to storm the stronghold and take down Shishou...and rescue MaoMao of course! But what fate awaits the Shi Clan, Suirei, and Shisui - and can MaoMao save her friend or is it too late for such things?! There was so much to this episode -- and so much to talk about! Let's GO!

Man, that comment on Shisou aged poorly in Spongebob levels, hahaha!! MaoMao definitely cares for Shisui and has come to love her - either as a friend, platonically, or romantically - I love it. And Shisui DEFINITELY loves MaoMao! NOT so platonically! ;) Lahan is so great; I love him so much already, too! He reminds me with the measurements as someone from Fruits Basket! ;) And yeah, I love how Lahan is so straight forward and open with what he says, QUITE different from MaoMao. Siblings are often different, though, eh? ;) Hahaha, I will have the hots for Gaoshun forever. Not ashamed of it! 😀His wife is at home, clutching her photo of him, probably. ;) If they show us him with his hair down? TOO MUCH POWER. I won’t be able to take it! WE HAVE THE BUDDY DADDIES PAIR?! Can I ship them already? 😛 That’s amazing, though - that’s interesting about him popping up in Season 1! Thank you for the VA information on him! Yessss, there is a REALLY big distinction for Lakan vs. Shishou in that some of it was out of Lakan’s control or he didn’t realize until it was too late - with Shishou, he’s BEEN aware so he had the opportunity to stand up and do something…and chose not to. AND I could never see Lakan looking at Lahan or MaoMao being abused and take that lying down AT ALL. I cannot believe they just DROPPED ON US that Gyokuyou had a son! INSANE! I was like, Go back! Let’s talk more about that! Lihaku is such a sweetheart and I love that he rolls with everything - and I don’t blame him for reacting the way he did but yeah, Lihaku is such a sweet ally to MaoMao and I’m glad she has a platonic friend like him! Thank you so much for the comment and kind words!! Onward to Episode 23!!

Shishou is pathetic indeed and our boys do look unfairly hot in armor 😏 My brother has been watching this show too, and I cried to him when I saw Shisiu had poisoned the children! It made me so sad! But then he told me his theory that Shisui actually gave them the same drug Suirei took, so the kids would seem dead long enough to escape getting executed and then they would wake up later. I don’t know why Shisui wouldn’t just tell MaoMao that if that is what she did, but I’ve been hoping for it nonetheless. Thinking about that theory with my fingers crossed has helped make this episode more bearable. Plus Shisui mentioning them being tanuki’s and ‘pulling off one last trick’ has made me more hopeful that Shisui is also pulling a trick and finding a way to let the kids ‘survive the winter’. And I’ll keep those fingers crossed until proven otherwise! 🥲🤞🏼 Thanks so much for the video!

(in the Spongebob voice) Ten Minutes Later 🤣 The parting between Maomao and Shisui was done so well. It shows that even if Maomao doesn't know it herself (or at least the depth of her feelings), she cares so much for Shisui 🥺 I love Lahan so much, even if he is a Maths-head😆 Gotta love him deducing Jinshi's true identity simply through Jinshi's measurements 😂 But definitely agree with your comment about bisexuality being a thing. Lahan doesn't have to bemoan that Jinshi isn't a woman 😁 Lahan deserves all the headpats! I need Lakan to do that more 🥺 Romania [about Gaoshun]: Why'd you make him hotter?! I nearly choked laughing so hard at this. But yeah, just when we thought they'd reached the limit for making us want Gaoshun/be envious of his wife, they go and give us Gaoshun in armour. The only thing I can think would have been better is if we could see his hair rather than it being beneath a cap 😍 We have briefly seen the character that speaks to Lakan and Lahan before. Back in Season 1 Episode 14 when there was the explosion in the warehouse he was the person calling for Lakan. He's voiced by my beloved Uchiyama Kouki 🥰, i.e. Tsukishima's voice actor, as well as Rei from Buddy Daddies [yes that means with this character and Lahan we have both Rei and Kazuki from Buddy Daddies 😁], Shindo from KazeTsuyo, Kirishima from Free!, Inumaki from Jujutsu Kaisen, Benedict from Violet Evergarden, and Oomae from Daiya. He's also Yurio's seiyuu in the Japanese dub of Yuri!!! On Ice. It's really intriguing getting Shishou's point of view, especially as it's quite similar to when we got Lakan thinking on his past back in Season 1. But with Lakan learning more about him made us much more sympathetic and understanding of his character. With Shishou however there is some understanding for how things came to be, but it is definitely hard to feel sympathy for him when he admits to not being present or aware of the true extent of Shenmei's abuse towards Suirei. Such a way to drop the bombshell that Consort Gyokuyou had her baby and it was a son! 🤩 Especially with how we had to just continue on with the plot. I truly love the way Lihaku just goes with it all. He does have questions regarding both Jinshi and Maomao's identities, but he doesn't question Maomao further about her relationship with Lakan. Gotta love his reaction though to realising Lakan is Maomao's birth father 😆 Lihaku though is definitely one of the good guys with his willingness to at least bury the children's bodies 🥺 However Maomao might disagree after his suggestion on how she'd be able to help bail him out of trouble 🤣 Completely agree on loving the relationship between Maomao and Lihaku. The way their interactions are written you can clearly see that they have a platonic relationship. A different vibe from how Maomao's moments with other characters, not just Jinshi and Shisui. Like with Luomen it's very much father-daughter, and with the Three Princesses there is also that familial connection. With Xiaolan there is the closeness/vibe of older sister/younger sister with how they treat each other. Lihaku, however, they are friends but not as close as Maomao is with Xiaolan.
