Kaito and Nanao's history is finally revealed and their developed friendship, relationship with one another, and their blossoming rivalry! This is truly a coming-of-age episode and how it's good to want to protect those we care about, but even more fulfilling to challenge one another and free the ones we care about, so they can "bloom" alongside us.
Is this my favorite episode of the season? KyoAni isn't MISSING with the emotion, character development, and STELLAR animation! CHEERS!

RIGHT?! How do they get better and better each week? This season has been SO. GOOD. And yesssss, seeing the sister did that to me, too, that we hopefully won't have our hearts broken over Ryohei's sister. I agree! Kaito is so hard on himself; if his middle school teammates said that about his influence to him, that would be the BEST! I like that Nanao HASN'T told him, because it gives me hope that such a situation will happen. And honestly, YES, that build up to their "fight" and what they both value most was SO endearing! From what I've heard it's not really common but also not unusual for highschoolers to live alone in japan. Seeing Ryohei's sister coming out of her room and leaving the candy for him gives me a hope that his story won't completely destroy my heart. And yeah, the contrast in Ryohei's home and his personality is so good. I need Kaito to learn that he had such a influence on his old teammates. I hope they meet at a tournament again and say it to him. The tension at the start and the build up to their "fight" at the end was amazing. Kaito and Nanao having eachothers backs but also wanting to win against the other is so good. Kyoani does such a good job at showing us in little moments important things or emotions. It's insane to think how this show has made an already good series EVEN better on all fronts, but it has! And yes, everything is done with such care and precision! And oooooooh, the Kaito framing of him away from his team comparing to that of Masa and Minato?! Great observation! I love that detail you pointed out! Thank you for that and the comment!

2023-02-24 02:36:04 +0000 UTCthis season has been spectacular and this was my favorite episode so far too (':: season one was already gorgeous, so it's mindblowing how even more beautiful season two is. I seriously don't know any other show this season that can boast about having direction as poetic and poignant as tsurune right now- everything is just done with purpose and grace. the lighting, subtle tension, framing of scenes, expressions, and animations are just so beautiful. like, i loved that little scene in middle school with nanao shooting and kaito watching from the crowd in a close up, and in a later scene, it's the same scene but now it's zoomed out to show kaito separated from the rest of his team and completely recontextualizes the previous scene. it reminded me of the season one final scene when it was revealed that masa was right next to young minato all along when he first fell in love with archery.
