MONSTER: Episode 19 Full Length Reaction!

**NERVOUS LAUGHTER-FILLED HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

OH, Monster is NOT playing around anymore (was it ever, though?), as Tenma meets a familiar face with a grudge, and Johan is revealed to be QUITE the premeditative manipulator in this psychological thriller of an episode! Lots to talk about but this episode definitely ran the gambit for creeping me out! *nervous laughter* indeed!

MONSTER: Episode 19 Full Length Reaction!

Comments

Thank you for the spoiler tag! I do agree that watching one episode at a time is the way to go for me! And wow...knowing this is based off a real person; you know, I think I REMEMBER seeing this when it came out as a child (I grew up in the 90's) and maybe that's why the design hits so creepy -- either way, thanks for the comment and the information!

First off, I'm glad you decided on not to binge it and let the show burn slowly, I think it's the best way to enjoy this particular show, because the show itself is so calm and deliberate and it's full of episodes that feel like their own self contained story that watching it one by one and letting the aftermath of each simmer for a week before jumping to the next is way better than doing batches; imagine watching last week's episode about a reformed hit man running a pizzeria and immediately jumping into a an episode about a serial killer having it's childhood trauma exploited to kill an innocent person. Sure you can speed run it but how do you even decompress and savor properly what each episode is doing? Nothing against binging, some shows are fantastic for that (and some day the show will tempt you), but for me, with Monster you take your time and you savor it. On to the episode itself, the killer in this episode is based on a real life guy named Ed Kemper, he indeed was a huge guy: https://i.redd.it/f3rf5oes7p8a1.jpg , imagine that mountain come after you, he was also portrayed in the show Mindhunter, both shows do a great job of showing how eerie it was to interview him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDYBmNYc8IA ... Live action Monster would be so fantastic. SPOILER TAG FROM THIS POINT ON JUST IN CASE BUT ITS REALLY JUST A RANT MAYBE OTHERS CAN JUDGE HOW SAFE IT IS. The show does give its 'law-abiding' characters some relatable flaws and by the same token gives its 'criminals' relatable traits. So it's easy to theorize as Rudy does this episode that the 'monster' lives inside of everyone. But it's funny how the show gets to have a serial killer of all things be the one that calls us out on that one, to basically say 'I'm not talking about that, that's just people being people I'm talking about are real monsters out in the world.' I do think there's a difference, anyone could kill under duress, and you could even understand if not agree why someone would kill for profit, or for your people be it family, community, race or country. But to be a serial killer feels different, to kill for killing's sake, to inflict pain for pain's sake, out of compulsion, that's monstrous, and I don't believe that's in everyone. And then there's Johann.

Agreed; this series has been phenomenal so far! :) Thanks for the comment!

Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster... for when you gaze too long into the abyss, the abyss also gazes into you. - Friedrich W. Nietzsche (this series is so good)
