FIRE PUNCH: Manga Volume 5 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

**SOBERING HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

After volumes of insanity and set up, it's only natural we have an incredibly somber volume of mainly Agni and Togata coming to terms with their own identities, aspirations, and how they want to be viewed by others (and themselves)...

...before jumping back into the INSANITY! Things escalate QUICKLY in this volume and with THREE to go, I'm left utterly clueless as to what all Fujimoto can pull out for us at this point!

FIRE PUNCH: Manga Volume 5 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

That cut from the inside of Agni's mom to Doma on fire was so intense and PERFECTLY executed! I also like that Agni's internal conversation is still mysterious! And yes, I thought that at this point Agni hasn't wanted to die and it's his will keeping him going through, too, like you said! Thanks for the comment! :D

YES! An ambush of emotional gut punches! and yessss, just when you get comfortable in the series, this volume gives us something completely different and it ties into the symbolism and these deeper topics -- I LOVE IT! Thanks for the comment!

Yessss, the theme of "acting" has been so crazy in this series so far! And yesssss, these characters have been acting so long that they've lost sight of who they are! And yesss, Togata coming out was handled really well with this volume! Thank you for the comment!

I love the way Fujimoto executes his theme of identity/acting. You have Agni, Togata and Judah, all acting out a role to such an extent that even they don't know their real self. I really like the way that Togata coming out ties so neatly into the narrative themes. Togata will be missed, they really shon in every scene they were in.

This volume is a perfect example of why I love Fujimoto's writing. He's so good at ambushing you with emotional gut punches. You got comfortable with this genre savvy, dark c-movie style action comedy about a naked guy on fire? Well here, have some fraught conversation about gender and identity that approaches the topic with more care and respect for the real world weight of those things than you see in a lot of media. Classic Fujimoto.

This volume feels like the real start of fire punch to me. The part where Fujimoto shows Agni's inner process and directly cut to Doma burning is amazing. It feels like some consciousness stream. And apparently Agni's behavior before and after this stream of consciousness part is not consistent. But some sort of consistency, I believe, lies underneath. This can be one of the points where it's mostly discussed. Also why does Agni have to live? One easier understand of this question is that, Agni himself doesn't want to die. Remember in the first volume we already know that Agni can refuse his power of regeneration. And so Agni actually can die if he choose so. So I'd like to think that it is not because of a strong regenerative power but because of a strong will of living that he can live through Doma's flame.
