I was VERY excited to read the anthology of Fujimoto's one-shots from ages 17-21, and oh my word -- the fact that this mangaka could create such bizarre, powerful, and emotional narratives at THIS AGE is enviable. I was a MESS reading this collection of amazing short manga! My love for ol' Fujimoto just gets stronger and stronger...

2023-04-15 20:06:20 +0000 UTCRIGHT?! The concepts and ideas with these stories mix tried and true concepts with a unique and fresh perspective and telling -- it's fantastic! Right now, I'm aiming to save it for Season 2 -- I REALLY enjoyed the anime and if I read the manga now, I'd still want to see the anime and it'd sour the reactions a bit. I can be patient, though, and bide my time with other reactions in the meanwhile. ;) Thank you for the comment!

2023-04-11 12:29:13 +0000 UTCOH my gosh, you're so on the nose with the "catching bullet" scene to be like the exploding buildings from Goodbye, Eri -- that part just GUTTED me. It's that fantasy to downplay the horrors of reality that somehow ends up highlighting them (in the best way) even more! And YES, I'm going to be VERY excited to read 22-26! If his work at THIS age is this good, I'm excited to see what else is in store; thank you for the comment!

He tells really grounded, human stories, but just like Yuta in Goodbye Eri, he adds that pinch (ok sometimes more than a pinch) of fantasy that somehow manages to make it land all the harder, whether it's catching a bullet or walking away from an explosion. Excited to read 22-26, then check out your reaction to it as well.
