Despite it being the POLAR OPPOSITE of Season 1's finale, this episode was checking off ALL my boxes for how I'd want an Icelandic reunion with Thorfinn and his family to go...and THEN gave me MORE than I expected!
This season has been so beautiful, what else is there to say? I am SO ready for Season 3, however long it takes. I can't wait to talk with you all about this season and this finale episode!

Yesssss, all the callbacks, right?! I just love that we got Leif, Thors, and Askeladd -- YES, the three fathers that have been in his life, that's such a great way to put it! :) I'm not surprised it's anime original, but it makes sense! Seriously, why did Mappa have to make Askeladd look THAT good?! I would love a spinoff OVA of his early years! If Mappa gets the time (dark laugh) that would be awesome! And yes, Ylva hugging her mother and seeing Helga hug her back as a kid? That's a great observation! I honestly LOVED the art and beauty of this season; it was phenomenal! I agree, I'm going to wait eagerly for season 3...I hope it's not 4 years, either, but it'll be worth the wait! Thank you so much for the kind words and comment! I appreciate it!

From the faithful art style to the beatiful animation and backgrounds, to the SPECTACULAR voice acting of everyone involved to the amazing OST, AND the anime original scenes like the episode with Gardar dying and the last scene at the slave's grave. Probably the best season of an anime I have ever watched. Thank you for the reactions!

2023-06-20 19:47:26 +0000 UTCThis episode made me so nostalgic for the first 3 episodes of the series. The final montage of the “father figures” in Thorfinn’s life was entirely anime original. Also it seems that Askeladd was placing daffodils on a grave. Daffodils are the national flower of Wales. So one can only assume it was his mothers grave :(. (Also seeing young Askeladd makes me now DESPERATELY want an OVA of his early years. He just looks SO GOOD.) That final montage just highlighting parenting in so many ways. Let’s not forget Ylva cuddling up against Helga as she reflects how she held her as they crossed the sea to Iceland. This series in many ways feels like genuine art. Like it’s some kind of art house anime. Huge kudos to MAPPA for making one of the best and most faithful manga adaptions I’ve seen in recent years. The wait for S3 will be GRUELING. But the chief animation director has TEASED in a tweet that “Thorfinn’s journey will continue” with a “III”… Let’s just hope we don’t have to wait 4 years this time… Sadly I can’t watch the analysis itself until tomorrow, so sorry if I covered some topics you already discussed!
