Heaven Official's Blessing//TGCF: Novel & Manhua Reaction - PART 59 - Chapters 184-186!

**HEARTBROKEN HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

Things go from bad to worse for Xie Lian, as he attempts to be a robber, fails miserably, and worse -- runs into some familiar faces from the heavenly realm! Xie Lian's guilt, desperation, and helplessness causes him to spiral into not only breaking code and drinking, but into a residual depression.

And just when you think it can't get WORSE...it does, as another familiar face or two show up. I have never felt so badly for Xie Lian, never felt so much sympathy for Hua Cheng, that can't do ANYTHING to help his gege, and never felt so much DREAD at what the next set of chapters has in store for us...

Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

The fact that the official website calls this “light-hearted” is HILARIOUS. Seriously, WHAT? Hahahaha — but yes, these chapters…it gives me a lot of respect for XL that he’s the way he is in the present, given all he’s gone through in the past, especially these chapters. And ahhhh, now we know that HC has been there ALL ALONG for XL…but the big question is, will XL realize it when we return to the present? That’s a great point about SQX too — ugh, the mountain officials are just the WORST in these chapters! And hahahaha XL learning to curse from FX is actually really funny! And yeah, I agree with MQ…that “betrayal” in these chapters was a really low blow. I wouldn’t blame you! Thanks for the comment! :D

Xie Lian literally getting kicked while he’s down was REALLY hard to read…it makes me respect him so much more now, knowing all that he’s going through here, but yesss, it’s really hard to watch! And yes, even if at first they didn’t hold anything against XL, you can tell on the mountain — it’s like a group of kids at school ganging up on the teacher’s pet — finding any moment to shame the “prince who pleased god” any way they can and it’s so heartbreaking! And wow, yes, us being in the boat of HC is so true! And yessss, now we know why HC does all he can to protect his gege! Thank you so much for the kind words and comment! I’m…oof…looking forward to next week? *nervous chuckle*

Thanks for the reaction! Man, every time we ask ourselves 'is this the worst to come' and 3 seconds later MXTX slaps us with even more angst while claiming the book to be 'light-hearted' (yes that's one of the labels for tgcf on the original website) 800 years later HC seems to be always scolding E'Ming when the blade is crying and shaking, and constantly going 'stop all those tears, it's only because you're useless', and here we understand that the one he's actually angry at is himself who cannot protect XL. Although there's so much pain and stress, XL in the end managed to keep his moral codes, without that given his ability, his third ascension may be 'the god of robbery' rather than 'the god of scrap collecting' On black water's lair when XL and HC are talking over campfire and roast rabbits, XL said something along the lines 'I had some very unpleasant time before and I kept thinking back then, if only there's someone who had seen me rolling in the mud and unable to get back up, but still chose to love me.' and now we know, HC is always there with him. The 33 heavenly officials are another big proof that ascension has nothing to do with morals or SQX would be a lot more qualified than this lot and SWD wouldn't have to swap fates to protect his brother. And by the time HC challenged them, they are all powerful officers in the upper court with numerous followers, but they're still bunch of a-holes. I'm pretty sure XL learned those cursing lines from FX because the latter didn't upgrade his vocabulary even 800 years later. All I can say regarding MQ is if my best buddy suddenly turned on me and began joining that group of little bi*ches in school, I'd do more than just throwing mud at them.

Ah, these chapters were a journey! I had a hard time getting through them the first time I read tgcf because they honestly made me feel a little sick to my stomach. The second-hand embarrassment from watching Xie Lian be basically humiliated by the heavenly officials was just so painful. The shame and regret from being unable to save Xianle, his people turning against him, and the banishment wasn't enough, no, the 33 officials had to come kick him while he's down. Even though it was coincidence that those officials caught Xie Lian as he failed to rob someone, it almost seemed like they were waiting for it. It's not a personal grudge against Xie Lian or anything, they were just so eager to have something to hold over him. Their actions at the mountain felt vindictive, like they got perverse enjoyment from seeing someone who used to hold such a high position fall from grace. It's cruel. I always think of these chapters as "the Hua Cheng experience" because we as the audience are in a very similar position to him, stuck witnessing Xie Lian suffer and being unable to do anything about it. Little ghost fire Hua Cheng tries his best but he's ultimately helpless to really help Xie Lian. I think MXTX does a great job of making us feel that hopelessness that Hua Cheng likely did and it gives us more insight into his actions in the present. Obviously he loves Xie Lian, but after reading this set of chapters it's even more clear why he goes to such lengths to protect him now. I really enjoyed your reaction and discussion for these chapters and I'm looking forward to next week's set too!
