Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5: Episode 9 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

**OLD MAN YAOI HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

Can we go back to the sweetness of Episode 6 this season? There was some humor in this episode, to be sure! And some delicious shojou-yaoi-esque moments between FukuFuku, but the overall vibe of despair, Ranpo and others getting hurt (LEAVE THEM ALONE), and the overall sense that our crew isn't getting out of this is SO foreboding!

And next week is the penultimate episode...hoo buddy!

I am writing this comment just to bring to light things I noticed in the episode. I promise this does not contain spoilers or hints to future events.  Now, I just wanted to give more thought to something you said. And don't worry, it doesn't have spoilers.  You said that you thought that Fukuchi wanted to change the past. Make it so that the war didn't happen and that he and Fukuzawa would have been just two normal men living their best gay life together.  But if you think about it... He is changing the past in a way. With the sword. In this case, the ability of the Shintō Amenogozen would literally coincide with his wants and beliefs! Damn, that Is cool! And ... I just wanted to point out one thing this episode. In the past, we saw the first battle between Fukuchi and Fukuzawa end in a draw, 18 for Fukuchi and 18 for Fukuzawa. But at the end, it's Fukuzawa who gives the last hit when Fukuchi didn't expect it, and in theory, he wins.  That's the opposite in the present, with Fukuchi giving the last hit when Fukuzawa didn't expect it... Damn you, Asagiri, and your parallels!

Thanks for the comment and kind words! Unfortunately, I don't want to read about a character until I've finished their arc in the series, for fear it could influence my discussions or reveal possible clues for hints at things to come! I appreciate you being passionate though about Fukuchi (I believe you're talking about him) and I hope you can be patient as I explore his character further in the series. Thanks!

I am going to be honest. I see a lot of people in the BSD fandom hating Fukuchi, and I can understand why. He has hurt a lot of our favorite characters, and his power with the Shintō Amenogozen can feel a little plot-armory at times. But I can't really bring myself to hate his character. He is doing exactly what he needs to do. He needs to make US grit our teeth; he needs to get on OUR nerves; he needs to feel like an overpowering force almost impossible to stop. And that's why I love him so much. His character makes sense with the intention of the author, and it makes him the villain that he is supposed to be. A lot of the time, people hate characters for what they do (like hurting the characters that they love, being selfish or cruel, opposing the main characters, etc.), but I really think they are, at times, the best characters for the role that they have in the story. Thanks to them, the world in which the story takes place feels real and not unidimensional. They have their own motivations and feelings that push them to behave in a certain way. That's why I think Fukuchi is a great antagonist and a great character. He feels real. And I am in no way criticizing anyone who doesn't like him. Anyone should have the right to like or not like a character. This is just a personal observation that I noticed happens in a lot of fan spaces. And I absolutely agree with the comparison you made with that certain AOT character. The themes of war are really prevalent in this season, and I LOVE it.
