After all these episodes of character development, time, and a little (much needed) communication -- Guts and Casca's relationship crescendos into this episode and I am LIVING. Of course, there's eminent darkness on the horizon and Griffith is being tortured alive but THE ROMANCE!! I AM SHAKING!

To me it signifies that she wears her heart on her sword (like the saying, "wearing your heart on your sleeve"). When she fights enemies it's out of her admiration and loyalty (her feelings) for Griffith, as she wants to be his sword. But now she is taking up her sword for Guts.
