WELL -- we get a lot in this episode set! Shogo's "Book Club" expands (And Kogami lays down a selection), the Public Safety Bureau gets creepier, Family Relations are FINALLY confirmed, and the society of Psycho-Pass gets darker and darker -- cloudier, if you will, despite the "clear hues!"
I am living for what this series is putting down, but things are getting grisly and I'm curious what all Shogo Makishima has in store for us!

You’re never late! Thank you for the comment and kind words! Yeah, I usually can avoid migraines when I react, but that day was just not one of them. T-T It’s VERY creepy with the moving funeral pictures but somehow seems…a logical? Move for this society in the future to make? I think the memory scoop is interesting too! Akane is just awesome for being as accepting as she is! Her going with the flow and Makishima wanting to wreck the system is definitely interesting between them! And that idea of the jet stream dividing Masaoka and Ginoza – that’s really cool! And AHAHAHA – and the crack theories that turn out to not be crack…gotta love it, right?! I love that you all get a kick out of it in the blackboxes! 😛And comparing Kogami to Uenoyama and Kagami? SIGN ME UP! I love that! The idea of how the Sybil System has warped society in comparison to our own is definitely very…interesting! The violence in this episode is definitely…SOMETHING. I do love the “Found Family” aspect of Division 1 for sure! Now I need Akane to show she has the brawn along with her brains so she can join Makishima and Kogami’s book club! 😛 Your comment about Akane and keeping her distance to work as an inspector is interesting! They can sometimes sneak up on you, or trick you into thinking you'll be okay and then suddenly you're not. Moving photographs for the funeral picture is definitely a bit freaky. Sorta reminds me of a program that a genealogy site has that can animate your still pictures. Several people used it to bring to life mugshots of convicts from a couple of decades ago and it was beyond creepy 😅 I do love the idea of a memory scoop in relation to how it is within Psycho-Pass. Eye witness testimony is a very unreliable piece of evidence for crimes, but I feel like this kind of technology would increase the reliability of linking what a person saw to a potential victim/suspect. But what I love most is how they depict memory. It's a very realistic portrayal that Akane trying to think back to that moment could bring up other memories related to any number of things within the memory she's actually trying to think of. Akane accepts the world around her for how it is, good and bad, whereas Masaoka was the opposite and railed against the changes happening within society and his profession. The jet stream from the plane whilst they were discussing this almost looked like it was dividing Masaoka and Ginoza (just like Ginoza tries to distance himself from Masaoka as his father, and Masaoka accepts Ginoza's choice and just puts his concern off as a subordinate's concern for his boss). Also, you jokingly first suggested Masaoka and Ginoza were father and son around the same time that your crack theory about Jun Wu and Bai Wuxiang was revealed as a possibility in Tian Guan Ci Fu, so those of us that know both and watch both reactions were giggling behind blackboxes at yet another of your crack theories not actually being ludicrous 🤣 With Kougami's way of approaching Akane whilst she was thinking about the past and Makashima I realised he shares some similarities to two (somewhat blunt) characters I do love: Kuroko no Basuke's Kagami and Given's Uenoyama 🥰 The thing about the person in the mask pulling the woman round to face them is that because of the Sibyl System most people might believe that they're safe, but for us watching our inner danger alert is going off like crazy. In our current society a lot of girls are being brought up knowing how to avoid confrontation and 'rules' on how to try and keep safe from weirdos and psychos like that. But with the introduction of the Sibyl System, and belief in said system, people might have lost their internal warning for such situations as this moment on the street, but also what happened in the pharmacy too. Though the fact that all the other people on the street didn't say or do anything is making me think of a recent crime of a sexual nature that took place in the London Underground on one of the trains, in front of other passengers who did and said nothing until some time after the fact. It's absolutely awful that there is a link to our reality, but I feel like it shows that even with a system like Sibyl in place those that want to hurt and kill others will still find a way to do it. Really gives you a better insight to not only Kougami and Shion's separate characters, but also the camaraderie they have in the way they interact when he's trying to get her to find some information for him. It's also different from her flirty way of being and gives me more besties or close familial vibes (which Division 1 is like a mixed bag of Found Family, with some actual family members present 🤣) An argument could be made that Kougami shooting the murderer when the helmet made his Crime Coefficient copy Kougami's could be like Kougami shooting himself, and I feel like that's why Masaoka was almost checking in with Kougami's state of mind afterwards. Just a correction, it's the Sibyl System that makes the call on whether the Dominator knocks out or kills the person, not the one holding the gun. So Kougami's comment about being glad it didn't turn into Executioner mode could be his relief that the system doesn't consider Kougami to be someone who their only option is to kill. These two episodes really were all about making you flinch from the violence. I don't blame you for not re-watching some of those scenes. Akane's reaction to Kougami reading a book could definitely hold two meanings. One, that she realises Kougami is an intellectual as well as having the brawn and street smarts. And two, because he's reading a physical book when their society seems to have become very digital. It makes for a nice switch-up from the stereotypical brawn vs. brain characterisation. Instead in Psycho-Pass both Kougami and Makishima are shown to have brawn *and* brains. I like the inclusion of fear being a detriment to a clear hue. Fearing your hue darkening can send you on a slippery slope of continually having your hue and crime coefficient being affected. Akane has a very pragmatic outlook and going with the flow, whereas Makishima's outlook is more revolutionary and bringing down the system to create a change. Akane being forced to stay away from the suspect because of the helmets is like a call back to Episode 1 and the advice Ginoza have Akane on how to work alongside the Enforcers. He said that the Enforcers are attack dogs and as the Inspectors they are their controllers (which can be done from a bit of a distance away). The interesting thing is that in that episode Ginoza wasn't following his own advice and instead was right alongside Kagari and Kunizuka. And it was Ginoza that shot the Dominator at the suspect. Seiyuu information (which has another you might be shocked by): the therapist Ginoza talks to is voiced by Toriumi Kousuke who has also voiced Wakamatsu from Kuroko no Basuke; Manaka Kaname from Daiya; Sakusa from Haikyuu!!; Kiba from Naruto; and Von Herder from YuuMori.

I really love narratives where reveals re-contextualise existing scenes, especially when you can go back to previous scenes and see the layers all there, evidence that things weren't just written in last minute. Back when I was watching it the first time, the Gino/Masaoka scene prompted me to literally pause the ep and go back (I'd specifically recommend EE ep 2 scenes). I never noticed the wide-shot with the arrows in that scene! It's beautifully constructed. Looking forward to next week!
