I know I say "Rule of 8," but for this series, it might have to be "Rule of 9," because this episode was STELLAR!
Getting so much depth with Knives's character, his motivations, Zazie's "role" in this story, and the mystery amping up as we get towards the climax of the season -- there was a LOT to talk about this episode and I'm living for it!

Thank you! This is one of my favorite episodes so far this season! I definitely am on board with Trigun Stampede and at this point super curious how they will continue to subvert the show from the original! Knives is really well done in this version! I think not having to “keep him a mystery” because we’ve known about him all along helps give them a lot more freedom with his character. And yes, I like that they talk about taking his time to wait for Vash to get to him, because he has time. Ohhhh Roberto – I agree with your comment; I don’t mind him so much as he’s taking Wolfwood’s time on screen with some of his dialogue (but we talk about why he couldn’t have it) and Meryl feels more sheltered with his character instead of taking the lead…but we’ll see where that goes! I do want Meryl to get more screentime and a role, for sure! But yes, See you next week!! Excited!! Thanks for the comment!

It’s been really nice seeing you warm up more and more towards this series (I didn’t think you disliked this version, but it definitely had some obstacles to overcome). Especially loved getting more Knives – absolutely agree he is much more interesting here. I unfortunately feel that in Trigun, he was one of those characters where it ends up feeling like writers used his existing label “familial relation” or “sibling” and wanted that to do the majority of the work in imparting extra context/depth for the audience. There is so much to Knives here – he has a strong perspective on his place in the world (and that of his ‘kin’), he craves familial connection or perhaps specifically not losing the connection with Vash. I think their lifespans also come into this, he’s willing to wait to show Vash what he’s talking about, for him to come around. Can’t wait for more of his development. Regarding Good Ol’ Roberto 😂 - again agreed. After your discussion, I took a while to think of the creators being in a situation where they wrote a bunch of Wolfwood dialogue and then them having to transpose that onto someone else, it could really have been the case. But there are so many ways to do the wry/world-wizened/comedic mentor character without leaning into condescension – why not do any of those? Especially when the dynamic feels so sexist - when it didn’t at all have to be so. I also want Meryl to do more stuff, I guess, she hasn’t had a chance to do much the past few episodes (since… episode 4? She did have a good moment in the Livio/Wolfwood two-parter, but it was literally a few lines). Can’t wait for next week! 💚
