Psycho-Pass Season 2: Episode 4 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

 **BLOODY GOOD HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

OH -- nothing much happens this episode -- except a BLOOD BATH. Literally!  Shots are fired, a new division is on the scene, and things are getting crazy without them getting answers on Kumai! I'm living for the drama but oh, it's tense!

Psycho-Pass Season 2: Episode 4 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

Yessss, that comparison of Umbridge and Voldermort to Kamui and Makishima is DEAD ON. Full on agree! Thank you for noting that!! And that information about the Job story and its relation to the episode works really well, too! But YES, Kamui’s best accomplice is their fashion sense! ;) The violence and just NUMBNESS to it is probably the most chilling in this episode, for sure. I feel Mika is SO afraid to do anything that Sybil doesn’t tell her to do – it creates SUCH a problem and it’s so frustrating! And her pulling rank over Akane was…NOOOO not having that at all, either! She wants to play it safe with the S.S. but she is jealous when she’s not able to have authority. I feel we all know someone like her that irritates us! And yes, the blood is on Sybil’s hands…so what does that say about the S.S.? Insanity. I do appreciate Kamui, creepy as he can be, is questioning that! Despite it being terrifying – I kind of want that robodog to exist in the real world for its applications! Damn it, Annie…now I want to read that fan fiction where Ginoza and Ayonagi are allowed to be together?! Is there a way for people to share fics in the Discord that aren’t spoilery?? And yes, I feel Division 1 knowing what Makishima was capable of gives it some credence to Akane’s theories as well! And 100% Ginoza is connecting Akane ‘s fixation on Kamui to Makishima – there’s no doubt in that! Thank you for the kind words and comment! I’m glad you’re getting to catch up on these!

I feel similarly to you with Makishima vs. Kamui, and honestly it reminds me of something I read within the Harry Potter fandom 😅 A lot of people in the Harry Potter fandom have a more visceral reaction to Umbridge than Voldemort because more people are likely to have experienced something similar to what Umbridge put people through than what Voldemort did. Makishima was like this larger than life villain, and such characters do exist in real life just they are not commonplace, similar to Voldemort. Whereas Kamui is more similar to Professor Umbridge, and certain actions and words trigger reminders in us of our own everyday experience with people like that. Now I don't mean that Kamui is a bully like Umbridge was, I simply mean that many of us can relate to interacting with people with each of their personalities. For the title of this episode, I think of two possible meanings that relates to the story of Job in the Bible [lost many of his possessions and his children as a test of his faith in God, and was rewarded for his continued belief]. 1) 'God' is the Sibyl System and we see the continued belief in the system that most of the Inspectors and Enforcers showed this episode (blind faith with the use of the sniper rifle before the people could set eyes on a target), but they have yet to be rewarded for this faith. 2) 'God' is Kamui and the old man kept his faith in Kamui and received salvation in the form of his crime coefficient not rising, and also potentially his death at the end. Romania I'm cracking up over you saying you could fit into the space if you were skinny and wore sweater vests 🤣 You've cracked the code, Kamui has an accomplice and it's his taste in fashion! 🤣 The violence of the old man beating up the people was definitely disturbing, but I feel like it's the old man's complete lack of reaction to what he is doing to another human being makes it all the more chilling. I love the transitions they use for Season 2. It definitely heightens the shock and fear you feel for the characters. Mika's actions definitely frustrate me so damn much this episode. Like she's concerned about being held to blame if anything goes wrong, but doesn't consider that she'll be held to blame for just standing by and doing nothing when she was expressly sent there to help. I was also frustrated at Mika pulling rank with Hinakawa in that moment, because yes she was put in charge of this case, but Akane is their division leader and should therefore be the one able to give commands from afar without them being questioned. For all that Mika goes by the book, she definitely lets her own power as an Inspector go to her head a little. The bloodbath at the end, and Mika saying that Division 1 were no longer in command, really hits home how reliant and unquestioning they've become on the Sibyl System making *all* decisions related to crime or mental health issues. I can give some leeway to them for this because they don't know the truth about the Sibyl System like we the audience and Akane do. They fully believe the system is infallible, but Akane has seen the brains that proves it isn't. I also *love* Kamui questioning what colour the Sibyl System is; the system considers itself to be above all the people its governing, but it was the Sibyl System that declared those victims should all die and therefore that blood, and others (RIP Kagari [and Choe] 😭), is on the system's hands. The little robodog would be such a useful thing for carrying an oxygen tank, 'cause those things can be heavy! I'm definitely with you on that type of dog being a good piece of tech we could have in real life. Ooh I hadn't thought of The Matrix with Aoyanagi taking the 'red pill'. But it's such a good comparison, because if she'd just taken the 'blue pill' then she could have used the nail gun on the old man and protected everyone else, though potentially at the cost of her own hue. Nice little AU that Aoyanagi did that and became an Enforcer and then her and Ginoza got it on 😆 I think because Ginoza has seen Makishima being able to do what he did, Ginoza is a little more open to Akane's theorising (than others on the team) but he doesn't let her act based simply on conjecture and reminds her of the need for evidence to prove her theory first. His concern for her hue though makes me think that Akane's almost fixation on this unknown entity Kamui (unknown to them) is reminding Ginoza a lot about Kougami's fixation on Makishima.

Seriously, I honestly don’t blame folks for tuning out this entire montage of violence, because it’s a DOOZY! And yeah, everyone stopped in their tracks by the “system” is just WILD but having seen it happen in real life…a bit disorienting and definitely leaving you feeling uncomfortable. I love how Gino and Akane literally represent the audience like, “WTF?” It was a great moment amidst the chaos. And yesssss, seeing Division 2 and 3 this season so far really makes you realize you were with the “special” group who were really kind at heart and cohesive as a group – it’s a stark contrast to the other divisions and their “sense of duty” that we are seeing, now, and how they aren’t as…”chummy.” Ron Swanson from Parks and Recreation would approve. It hurt SO MUCH once you realize Ayonoagi was going to die; I was REALLY rooting for her to make it out alive, even if she became a latent criminal! And yes, all the crumbs and little development and UGH…what else could have been done? There’s such a slew of “what if’s” at this moment! #regrets This season is a ride so far, but I’m really enjoying it! Thank you for the kind words and comment and looking forward a LOT to this coming week!

Loved the reaction & discussion! This episode – wow. I haven’t actually rewatched it in full since the pandemic, on my regular rewatches I just browse through it until I reach Hinakawa being a hard-working cutiepie and peace out onto the next ep - because it is so upsetting and horrifying. Specifically, watching a whole load of people - who are trained professionals, with SOME semblance of a duty of care - standing around and being so profoundly useless. And then also knowing that it makes sense within their world. Rage-inducing. We get plenty of examples of this in real life. The moment of Akane and Gino pulling up to the scene is amazing, I feel like it is a perfect representation of the audience. Something you brought up in the discussion – the obvious differences between the vibes of the divisions – this is very interesting to me, made me take some time to think back to watching this for the first time. We see next to nothing of anyone else in season 1, and I remember clearly having strange expectations of all the divisions being sort of like D1. Yes, maybe the supermarket own brand versions, and maybe we were following the “cool kids” – but I did imagine Masaoka or Kagari or Inspector Ginoza in these horrible circumstances first. How would they have reacted? This kind of dissonance just increased the impact of this ep for me. I also love that this is the type of effect that’s almost entirely self-inflicted. 😂 Losing Aoyanagi was brutal – she was amazing and we only got a few episodes! 😭 Especially her scene with Akane in S2E2 (still probably my favourite), where Aoyanagi is trying to accept some sort of reality that makes sense and we see Akane sitting there, dropping crumbs, being SO careful... but still wanting to be fair, and give Aoyanagi a fighting chance. But what else could Akane have done or said? Also #regrets What a ride. Looking forward to next week! 💙
