Frieren: Beyond Journey's End! Episode 19 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

*WELL-LAID HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

Frieren and her group have a plan to catch the Stille, but it's NOT going to be as easy as you may think...and catching the bird is only HALF the battle...LITERALLY!

The new characters are making moves and I'm getting the popcorn ready -- this is heating up and proving that there may be "too many mages" in the kitchen!

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End! Episode 19 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

I do love the satisfying reveal of the plan as well and with Fern as well – I’m sure that played into her catching the Stille for their group! Thank you for the comment and the translations as well! 😀I will definitely bring them up with a future reaction and my thoughts on them!

Ooohhhh love that! Thank you for the comment and pointing that out!

Frieren is actually getting to live out her solution, as she doesn't have Fern to scold her and make her move forward! And Land having a similar idea as Frieren -- they would stop worlds if they're to meet! Hahaha! And AAHAHHAHA -- Frieren isn't lazy or disinterested, she's just an ELVEN PROCRASTINATOR. Oh my God. There we go. And I LOVE Denken's character so much already! Thank you for the comment and kind words!

SPOILERS IN MY COMMENT: It's funny how the more important an act is for the world the briefer the story portrays it, while the more insignificant it is the more we dwell on it: stopping a gang of demons plotting against a city? that's taken care of in a couple episodes. Defeat a dragon? 1 episode, Defeat one of the demon lord's generals? that's just half an episode. Defeating the actual demon lord? that's a mere passing reference. Get your proper credentials and certifications? We'll go over that in minute detail for a full cour or half the season. I chose to believe it's a way to empathize with Frieren's view of how pointless it is for her to have to go through the bureaucratic process of an institution she'll outlive when she could instead be doing much more important stuff. Sort of like Yuki Nagato and the endless 8 situation for anyone who remembers that. In reality though yeah, the back half of the show is weaker than the front half, thankfully at least in my book it does get progressively better so that by the end the show feels like it's back in form.

I like how in their initial conversation, Frieren's party, with the information given we could've figured out their plan alongside them and then being revealed later and seeing the breadcrumbs, it's really satisfying. Fern is good at hiding her presence/surpressing her mana too, so maybe that's how they caught their Stille? Land - Land Scharf - Sharp Ehre - Honor Richter - Judge Laufen - Running Geisel (Monster Birds) - Hostage

Ok, maybe i'm going to be a bit of a negative nancy here but these two past episodes are by far my least favourite Frieren episodes thus far. Look, i watch Frieren to get my heart aching, infused by regrets, nostalgia and lost love... not to watch petty people squabbling over some petty arbitrary rank nither of our main characters even care about... at all. It's just something they need to get to get past some red tape, red tape i'm sure no one actually would be able to check or enforce where they are going. And the way this test is set up has me losing respect for the Mage Association (is that what it's called?) fast, death by monsters? murder approved? I get wanting first class mages being strong but do we want them to also be sociopaths? I'm sure even 3rd and 2nd class mages can be very useful both in society and on the battlefield. Atleast more than they are six feet under after legally killing each other trying to get some accolade/certification that only Fireren will remember in a hundred years... when she gets annoyed it's no longer valid and she needs to do some other new bullshit test again. 😂 They aren't bad in anyway they ju haven't hit me like previous episodes, and they do have interesting things in them. Like you, i find Denken fascinating and Frieren is always entertaining trying to navigate people and showing off her granny wisdom. Speaking of Denken, we don't know what he is all about but i tought on his views on 1st class mages not as related to fighting demons and more towards (political) influence in general. He seems like someone with authority and wanting more, recognizing that being 1st class means more power (over people) regardless of real magic knowledge/prowess. As he said, the real power is swaying people. Look at the hero's party, was Himmel the strongest warrior? the most powerful mage? the best... healer or whatever Heiter did in the party. No he was the one who moved and inspired people, got them to remember him. Now 80 years later he is still the most recognisable of them all even though two other members are still alive. If he had been the type i'm sure he could have had tremendous influence and started a political dynasty... but instead he just sat around for 50 years (or so we think, midlife crisis Himmel might have gone buck wild) so his true love could come back and take him to see some meteor shower before he died, each their own i guess. 😉

"Richter looks like he works in a law firm" Well how fitting, Richter can mean Judge in German ^^

Frieren's solution being to sit around and do literally nothing and just let time do its thing is the most Frieren solution possible. In a similar vein, Land's initial intention was to hide in a cave and do nothing; so you weren't wrong when your first impression of him was "He's just gonna sit there and do nothing". That was a little bit amusing. Anyway, in between the two of them; in the name of all of us procrastinators out there, this episode proves that we're not lazy, we're just efficient. And yeah, Denken's amazing.
