I have a plush Zodd now (THANK YOU MOOMIN) and he's going to be my emotional support for the manga, now, because lordy...this plot is getting HEAVY!
The hypocrisy of those in charge and supposedly "faithful" vs. the "common people." The people who are striving to be selfless and the selfishly sinful...the heretics and heroes, woebegone and witches...this volume is setting up a LOT...and I'm honestly TERRIFIED moving forward. I'm gonna need this plush Zodd to help comfort me, I have a feeling...

Oohhhhh, I REALLY like that idea of Guts as an Ash Crow or a harbinger of death because of the brand and where he goes! That’s so cool and the possibilities with his character – especially after Godo’s speech to him! Ooohhh, that explanation of “ecstasy” works really well, too – I’ll have to note that in a future reaction introduction! Thanks for that and the comment! I’m really excited about how Guts handles this option in the future!

2024-05-14 04:09:57 +0000 UTCDuring the volume 17 reaction, you were trying to metaphorically compare Guts to birds. In the 2016 anime there is a song called Ash Crow. I do not recommend you listen to the lyrics, because they me be slightly metaphorically spoilery. But the song is referring to Guts as a "ash crow". My interpretation of it is that Guts is a harbinger/sign of death and horror wherever he goes because of his brand. Just like how crows have been historically seen as omens of death. And the ash part is because his old kinder self has burned away but may perhaps rise again like a phoenix. The "ecstasy" Guts was experiencing was because of the chance at getting revenge on Griffith. And I think what Skull Knight was saying is that he has to choose. Either save Casca or unleash his anger and revenge on Griffith. Skull Knight was warning him that he can't do both. Based off of the information you have gotten about King Gaiseric so far, many people have come up with a theory about what happened in the past. There are no spoilers, but maybe you don't want to hear about this fan theory, so I am giving this warning. We already know that King Gaiseric would wear a skull helmet into battle. Based off of that, most people assume Skull Knight was King Gaiseric. And we have seen that the citizens of his kingdom were sacrificed, since we saw the brand on all of the skeletons underneath that prison tower in Midland. And according to Princess Charlotte and Judeau, King Gaiseric was a harsh King living in extravagance while heavily taxing his people. Now, Mozgus has given us a story about a priest that was being tortured under the orders of King Gaiseric. And this Priest prayed until God sent down angels. And obviously we the viewers are led to believe these "angels" were the Godhand. So the theory is that this was the event that led to all those skeletons getting branded. And the theory is that the tortured priest is Void. Void has his eyelids sewn shut and the skin on his face peeled open, signs of torture. That is why it is believed that Void was that priest that was being tortured by KIng Gaiseric. Void activated a Behelit, sacrificed the citizens of the kingdom, and became a member of the Godhand.

( I’m knitting a leg right now) Yes, he is a special unicorn! I’m glad you were trying to shield Zodd’s eyes from the orgy! 🤣 we have to protect Zodd!!! Man, there is sooooo much to cover that I’ll just go over a little bit. I had a conversation with another person on another video about the possible inspiration in this arc. They pointed out that there is a movie counterpart that Miura has taken some inspiration from and I agree with them. The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco. ( I read the book back in the 90’s. It’s a fantastic book!) The movie stared Christian Slater and Sean Connery. I enjoyed the movie very much! She is definitely going through it right now! Isidro! What a scamp! It is definitely good for Guts to interact with children and adults “normally !” I think Isidro is a good addition to our arc. I’ve heard that Miura modeled him after one of his assistants sons. ( I could be wrong about that) The Kushan! ( and Silat!❤️) Yes, they were a real people and culture. I was doing some research on them a few yrs ago so I was looking up videos on YouTube when I saw a very dodgy history video. It featured lifted panels from Berserk to illustrate who the Kushan were! OMG! I think it got deleted because I’ve not been able to find it again. It’s just funny. During the Kushan battle, Guts flings himself over Dragon Slayer as the Kushan rush in missing him. That is a Casca move! She did that during her last battle with Adon! I’d like to think she taught him that slick move! We meet Luca and her crew and Jerome. To me Jerome looks like a young Richard Dawson from the 1970’s. That’s all I see when I look at him! 😅 And Nina! Oh Nina! The art in this section really reminds me of the work of Gustave Dore’. His art is another noted influence for Miura and to me, I see it in these chapters. Hmmmm hypocrisy is alive and well in my state of Texas. This whole arc just goes all over me because I see this everywhere. It speaks to me. I’m so glad that Zodd was there for you and will accompany you for the rest of your Berserk Journey!
