March Comes in Like a Lion // 3-Gatsu No Lion: Episode 11 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

 *OLD AND NEW HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

This definitely feels like the end of "Act I" for the anime, as Rei has several revelations and is finishing up an old year and about to start one anew!

This was SOUL CLEANSING in the best sense of the word and I cannot tell you all how much this episode touched my heart! The show doesn't MISS!

Right, yes, I've definitely agreed with that stance in your second paragraph in the discussions. :) I still think that if Kyouko notices that her dad is giving Rei attention via Shogi that she could work on making herself a better player to get his attention more -- we'll see where it goes with her character and I'll probably develop my feelings as we go through the series! Thanks for the comment!

That's so cool! I love that and the tie to Japanese wardrobes full of stickers -- I definitely think something similar happened in U.S. households as my shelf as a kid had stickers all over it as well! :) Thank you for the comment!

I remember as a child I used to put stickers on the drawers in my house. In the 1960s, a candy called "Marble Chocolate" was introduced and a sticker was in it. (Cartoon characters like Astro Boy were drawn in it). When a child gets a sticker, he can't help but want to put it somewhere. The target was the wardrobe, which was within our living area. In other words, wardrobes all over Japan became victims of the stickers.

29:46 I think Kouda san doesn't push his kids directly to play Shogi, ironicly besides Rei, who he took in as apprentice. Especially that becomes clear when Ayumu stops playing Shogi after losing to Rei were he tells Rei that if his Kids don't have the motivation to go on by themselves there is no point trying to convince them otherwise. Kouda seems to be so single mindedly focused on Shogi that his kids got the impression the only way they could receive love and attention from him is by being good in Shogi also. Which was obviously the main reason for the conflict with Rei. The irony of the situation is that Kouda probably does care and love his children a whole lot regardless of Shogi, including Rei. He just doesn't understand their motivations because he isn't actually talking with them about their feelings. Which is a problem he shares with many fathers, be it in Japan or else of the world.
