I am really excited for the livestream to talk about this series and Monster! :) You know...now that you ask all those questions about Pluto....was this...A FAN FIC?! It kind of checks off all the boxes with Urasawa taking characters from an established series and sort of "rewriting" it with his own "take" on it...this was basically a fan fiction that he was able to get published and adapted. Mind blown! Still, I did enjoy it -- I just wish it was longer! Especially after seeing those scenes with Gesicht, Helena, and Robita! UGH MY HEART!! DAGGERS THROWN! 24 episodes would have worked, I think! But alas, at least we have what we have! Thank you for the links to the score! That piano piece was gorgeous! And thanks again -- hopefully see you at the livestream to talk more on it! :D But the next show I am REALLY looking forward to!

That's VERY interesting to know that about the OG Tenma from the anime -- some of Tezuka's characterizations are WILD from what I've seen! Not in a bad way, just WILD! Iβm really glad I watched it along with you. π₯° Any issues I personally have with the series I think I can distil into: who was this for? Who was the intended audience? You touch on this in the discussion, and I think the show was more confused about what it wanted to do. It is written to fit an existing universe, existing characters, with a bunch of very specific themes (passing on of hatred, βothering,β etc) but then also with a specific allegory heaped on top. I think we can say 8 episodes was too short β but by standard runtime this would have been a 24-episode season, and I would have expected a standard 2-cour one-off show to be able to handle itself better. I cannot understate though how much I loved the art and animation, especially the environments and the colours. And getting that scene with Gesicht, Helena and Robita? 2024-05-25 07:15:42 +0000 UTCThis story was apparently based on an arc from the Astroboy manga, but I haven't read that (I might try to find it). I do have the subbed two episode 1963 adaptation of this story if you're interested. It's not very good; I think the original manga would be more interesting. I also watched the first few Astroboy episodes and like you mention, Pluto actually softens Dr. Tenma's character, he's a complete lunatic in the original. I'm looking forward to the live stream! It should be a lot of fun, hopefully I can make it.
