I am DIGGING Sense's character so far and her portion of the First-Class Mage Exam! There's some VERY interesting twists and seeing how everyone responds to a dungeon raid is just so exciting! Let's follow Himmel's lead and LEVEL UP! Let's talk about the first part of this exploration in the dungeon!

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End! Episode 23 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

That’s my thing – It would take me SO long to get through a game because I’d have to get to that 100% – makes me think of the dreadful hours playing Spyro the Dragon on Playstation as a kid and never finding some of those last missing eggs…This episode definitely felt very Legend of Zelda for me! Oooohhh, that IS an interesting question to posit with Sense…Hm. I’ll have to wade through that one in the intro of Episode 26 (which is the next for me to watch - I couldn’t wait!). That’s a fair question to bring up, though! Land and Ubel’s relationship is so delicious and fun to watch! Ooohhh, and Ubel’s green color scheme would fit perfectly with the praying mantis vibes, and why Land wants to avoid her! Thank you for the comment - so excited for what’s to come!

Yessss, that reminds me of something to talk about in a future episode, but it makes me think of when you get used to having "assigned" seats in high school or elementary school, and then when you get to pick your own seats, you still go back to the ones you originally had or keep with a pattern...humans being creatures of habit, eh? Or going with what feels safe and secure than taking a risk? Lots to think about! Thank you for the comment and kind words!

It was definitely a really cool turn of events to see it be Frieren at the end, here! Sense is soooooo interesting! And yes, this entire test getting to be smart, get the character development flowing even more; it's all handled so well and I love it! Thank you for the comment and kind words! I cannot WAIT for the episodes to come!

Ah, Himmel is the completionist and Frieren is the loot goblin. I would so make a party with these two, that's exactly how i play my games, no stone unturned and everything not nailed down is coming with me. And you always have to take that 1% chance for some legendary loot, that's just common sense (no pun intended). Last episode i did pose question what class Himmel would be if this show was a game and i must say, this episode was the most "gamey" one we've had. Mapping dungeon levels on a magic map? check. Hidden treasure chests behind secret walls? check. Special medallions/coins for that one special trader? check. Environmental storytelling to find hidden traps/dangers? check. Oh and just this whole dungeon crawling thing as a whole, very much like a game. So i don't want to question the abilities of Sense here, but she did go with the party that "would have the easiest time" (meaning the strongest?), and she almost stepped on a trap Frieren saved her from, so... did she just never manage to get to the bottom of this dungeon and just made this test up so she could get there? That would be a sneaky way to do it, for whatever reason she would want to get there. It did sound like this was a new test she came up with, so guess it wasn't what she tried those times before when no one succeeded. On the other hand, if she knew about the copies she might just have wanted to go with the most powerful group and see how those copies turned out. Although Frierens copy didn't seem to come after the original, like the other copies seemingly did, so i don't know. Speaking about that, having a test where you have to go up against perfect copies of yourself and other mages and you happen to take the test the same year Frieren does? That is just unlucky, sucks to be them. I love how we in the background see Land trying his best to ignore Übel and she subtly annoying him. Is it just me or does it feel like Land is in a similar boat as a male praying mantis or spider? Knowing he should probably stay away (or lose his head), but perhaps not fully able to... resist. Sure he doesn't seem that interested now but i don't see much effort to turn her away either.

It's funny how originally the groups were formed randomly for the first challenge, yet for the most part they chose to stick with them anyway once they moved on to the second challenge even though they get told explicitly that it would be better if they all worked together. I guess in-groups and out-group dynamics are really hard to break once they're formed even if everyone would be worse off because of it.

This was my thought when watching this episode, who better to guard the end of the challenge than the most powerful mage in the test/dungeon? Our thought process on much of this episode was scarily similar as I think back to when I first watched it. I know you say it a lot and I agree with you, there is not much that Frieren does not do extremely well. We have had two episodes to get to know these characters taking the mage test and you (plural) get attached to them. And, as usual, its flashbacks are just handled perfectly. I, also, really loved Sense's character. I am looking forward to next week already.
