PSYCHO-PASS First Inspector: Episode 1 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

*TOWERING HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

I am honestly NOT ready for the final four installments of Psycho-Pass, but the roller coaster is climbing this episode! Full of set up, as Azusawa makes a final stand...in the heart of the Public Safety Bureau!

The pieces are falling into place, but there are still SO many questions, so many things left to be said and brought up...and we only have three more installments to do it in...no pressure or anything!

Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

PSYCHO-PASS First Inspector: Episode 1 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

Yes, I can totally see the OP relating to Sinner’s in the System in this for sure! I agree – the “hell to the no” radar starts firing up at the idea of AI and robotic devices getting more “personality” and closer to humanity – Pluto really explores that well, too, but yeah…it’s cute…and creepy! I appreciate Hinakawa being able to utilize anything for self-defense, too! And yes, the continuity from gym scenes with him were really nice! Ginoza just likes making the MOST dramatic entrance to save others! ;) Yesss, the sound design in this show is SO good, even when it’s the LACK of sound as well. Irie’s character has really grown on me over the course of this series! I like that connection to Temma as well! And Irie with all the ships! WILD! Shindo is such a sweetie – all of the faith in Shion and it’s so cute to see Shindo trusting in Shion and her helping him. I also like that Shion and Obata, two of our female characters, are the ones to have a “tech duel” in this series – which is a nice change of pace, as usually we don’t think of the IT folks as women. And Obata noting the smoking and connecting it to Shion– come on Kunizuka, make it through all this and convince your partner to dump the habit! And YES, Kogami was NOT trusting of Kei, which is interesting to me – does he suspect something about him? Azusawa would totally run off with the Homunculus in the Flask! So many similarities! Yes, I agree the condition with Kunizuka and her “surviving,” but at this point, I will take Kunizuka living if it means her getting to stay with Shion. I can suspend my disbelief in this anime for that, haha! Otherwise, I would have been heartbroken! I agree, Haikyuu 4x15 is so infamous now, but this wasn’t THAT bad or distracting! Just a wee bit. Ahhh, thank you for the comment and the voice actor information! It’s so weird we’re getting down to the wire in this series, now!

The OP for First Inspector reminds me a lot of the OPs for the Sinners of the System movies in the focus being on the characters and not giving too much in regards to actual scenes from the episodes. The little drones "ummm"s are equally cute and creepy. Imagine if when using Google to search for something like that it spoke to you like that 😅 I get that it's meant to make it more personable, but robotic devices becoming closer to how humans act definitely sets off my Hell No radar 😆 I have watched too many horror/thriller movies that never end well with those sorts of things happening. Hinakawa is me: in such a situation *anything* can be used as a weapon for self-defence 😆 But I love them showing him using these sorts of methods to fight back considering we saw him struggling in the gym in the last episode of Season 3. Feels like a nice bit of continuity in regards to Hinakawa's physical prowess not being the same as other Enforcers within the MWPSB. Sugo calls in an emergency and Ginoza comes in on a helicopter to save him...just like he did for Akane and Kougami back in the movie 🥺 Their use of sound, and a lack of ambient sounds, really heightens the tension surrounding the situation at the MWPSB. Gotta love the mirroring of Irie and Todoroki. Todoroki complained to Mika about the Dominators being 35 floors down from where their position was. Irie complained to Kisaragi about her plan to go up 30 floors to the roof. To be fair to Irie, they're outside in the cold with snow coming down on them. Shindo having faith in Shion gives me all the feels 🥰 Also it's another realistic aspect of Psycho-Pass that I love: even strong people need help at times. I love that Shindo doesn't attempt anything risky and has trust in his colleagues. It's also an intriguing comparison with Kei working with Kougami and Ginoza. Kougami definitely gave off an air of not being fully trusting of Kei. Romania: I wasn't anticipating this. What? You didn't imagine we'd get a computer geek vs. analyst robot wars 🤣 It's definitely an unexpected twist. And basically gives us a woman-on-woman fight that isn't physical, and shows off Obata and Shion's prowess with their machines. But I do agree that it felt a little dragged out. Obata mentioning the smell of smoke in Shion's workroom, and then Shion having some issues with her fitness/breathing, definitely felt like a glaring silent commentary on the problems that can come with smoking. I'd also say that Azusawa is like the Homunculus in the Flask as I feel like both provide others with "choices" but the options are tipped to make said others pick a specific choice. And then both can fall back on the argument that "it was the others who picked that option, they chose their own fate" and so the (metaphorical and actual) blood isn't on their hands. For Azusawa we saw him do this with Enomiya, and then with the latent criminals in this episode. With the Homunculus in the Flask he did something similar with Hohenheim. Both also give information about their varying situations in a manner that makes you believe they are being upfront and telling you everything, but instead they're withholding certain information that could sway any decisions you make. I actually agree that Kunizuka's injury does require you to suspend your disbelief. As much as it was a relief to learn she was gonna pull through, the way it was done felt a bit of a cop out with the writing in Psycho-Pass. Not that she managed to survive it but rather how it jumped from Mika being aware of the 'accident' and being in a critical condition to her saying "she's going to make it" when the lockdown seemed to happen immediately after she learned of the 'accident'. When you brought up the animation issues my immediate thought was of *that* Haikyuu!! episode 🤣 But I will say that whilst there were a number of moments that felt off, they weren't just as in your face as the issues with Haikyuu!!'s animation problems in 4x15. I think Irie, with all the shippable moments in Season 3 and this episode, is trying to duke it out with Kougami and Ginoza for who can have the most ships 😂 Two seiyuu that I had yet to mention are the voice actors for the two Pathfinders. Vixen is voiced by Nozawa Yukari. She also voiced Rodanthe (the teacher at the Auto Memories Doll school) from Violet Evergarden. The man is voiced by Ono Atsushi. He has also voiced Floki from Vinland Saga, Eddie Cassano (the Hollywood mob boss) from The Great Pretender, and Hirotsu from Bungou Stray Dogs.

Thank you so much for the kind words and comment! That is insane about having to wait for some months for First Inspector – it also could explain the animation if it was getting completed through Covid-19’s quarantine season. Interesting! Yes, Azusawa is such a good antagonist because of his flaws but what makes him dangerous is he believes he’s correct! Gaudy seems to fit him well! And yes Horiuchi does a REALLY good job as his VA and helps add to the “smarm” of him! Sugo really can’t catch a break! Honestly, I feel all of Frederica’s “hounds” are all men quite PRONE to being hurt…poor dudes! I definitely am the person that would skip the Shonen battle to get to the aftermath or the conversations with the characters! At least we got to see Obata and Shion face each other – and it was very cute! Thank you for the comment and kind words! I’m So excited for the First Inspector series!

Loved the reaction & discussion! Another episode where so much happens + a lot of set up. And you are right – season 3 aired Oct 2019 to early Dec 2019, and then that post-credits Kunizuka cliffhanger… and we had to wait until Apr 2020 for First Inspector! 😭 Which was extra fun for all the other reasons at the time, too. I enjoy Azusawa and your analysis of him/exasperation – he does put a situation on rails and then attempts to get praise for his “benevolence.” Gaudy is a good word for him in general. But for me it is also the fun he seems to have with it. He is unlike the other antagonists we’ve had in Psycho-Pass before, I think. Honestly though, I don’t know how much my enjoyment of Azusawa is purely due to the fact that the VA (Kenyu Horiuchi, incredibly prolific, doing excellent work) was also Gren from Cowboy Bebop - who was one of my first anime loves. 🥰 So I may be really biased there, as well. Baby lamb!Sugo getting hurt again 😭 – at least he and Frederica got out of there! Also loved the split of characters and slightly different groups than we saw for a lot of S3 e.g. more Tenma & Hinakawa, etc. I absolutely related to your annoyance at the mini-robot fight – ‘the characters could be talking!’ 😂 But then I feel that way about most action with very few exceptions. Though all the little robots + floaty helper bots are extra cute in this. Looking forward to next week! 🧡
