Just when I think that Frieren can't surprise me any more, that it's going to be chill the whole way through - THIS episode happens! Combining character growth, offering surprises, and having threads of fate connecting in ways I could NOT have imagined!

Plus this show is on the verge of making me cry AGAIN. I can't believe next week is the season finale -- I will miss this show and all of its charm...but more on that next week!

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End! Episode 27 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

That is VERY true! We all do have our tastes, indeed! :P No kink-shaming on this channel!

Romaniablack

On the other hand his first impression of her was "cold" and then maybe seeing something more. Then he chased that for the rest of his days, perhaps he knew exactly was he was into... we all have our own tastes. 😜

I do agree that Serie was hard on Lernen for sure; Serie definitely seems...potentially, in denial of some inner reflection, haha! And yes, for all her power, she really does seem just "bored" at times because the tests just wouldn't be needed if she can determine a mage's qualifications (in her eyes) from the start. I do agree that I love her foil with Frieren, though! They make for some great back and forth! Ha, yeah, Himmel's entire love life was centered around her! I do feel for him -- he saved humanity and defeated the demon king at the cost of eternally pining for an asexual elf. I hope that when he eventually does meet with her in "heaven," she at least shares some of her thoughts and feelings with him so he can know it was all worth it for himself. ;) Thank you for the comment!

"Keep it cooking!" Ahaha, I love it! Oh, I have REALLY wanted to watch it since it came out -- it just needs to depend on "when!" But that's great to know about the dub, too! :D

Romaniablack

Thanks for the reply! Even if it takes you a long, long time to get to Delicious (like decades) - keep it cooking on the back burner! It's another one with an A+ dub too (crazy to find two shows in one year as good as the original or better at times, first Frieren, then Delicious, they both put some work in them!), so that's always a plus! Looking forward to watching the final reaction.

Hahahaha, the ultimate destroyer of villains: KINDNESS TO A CHARACTER AT A YOUNG AGE! I love that Serie discounts it so much because it goes against her fundmental beliefs with magic, and yet it's so far the most influential spell in the series! If Serie did a spell of that magnitude, I would LOVE to see that - of course, I'd also love to see Frieren side-eying her and smiling at Serie afterwards! ;) AND SERIOUSLY -- Frieren and Himmel are covering the childhood friends, co-workers, and fated lovers tropes -- so many!!! Thank you for the comment!

Romaniablack

I was mainly asking that as rhetorically in a way – I think she does look down on Frieren based on her viewpoints that are different than her own, but she knows she’s insanely strong (aka the barrier breaking moment) and why she targets her to “not” become a “first class mage.” But it does make her calling out Frieren on her training with mana interesting. I definitely believe that Serie is jealous/envious of Frieren’s “freedom” and view surrounding magic, even if she doesn’t fundamentally understand it. I’m glad you shared your viewpoint and perspective in this comment! I don’t think at this point we can say what is totally correct or not - it’s a fictional story and the author isn’t being direct so that’s the fun of speculation! 🙂 I don’t dislike Serie actually; I really like the “rivalry” between her and Frieren. I love how different the two are and how they both clearly cared for Flamme to different degrees. I will be excited to see what will happen with the two of them in the second season! 😀I definitely find her fascinating! Thanks for the comment!

Romaniablack

Serie and Frieren trolling each other will never fail to make me smile! I love it! I can totally see where people WOULD ship them together, but sadly the Medieval Fantasy Jesus has made him and Frieren an OTP for me at the moment, so Serie may have to deal with that first! 😛 But I probably have mentioned that I can see how people would think they’re a thing! And yes, pot calling the kettle black with Serie on Frieren! FOR sure! There’s definitely some envy or jealousy of her there, PLUS, Frieren was chosen by her “total failure and definitely not favorite” disciple Flamme, so, yeah. There’s a lot going on with her. Yeah, Serie is definitely a strong contender, based on her mana, it seems! I definitely like that Frieren can hold its own as accessible and good on its own merits, but has that high fantasy element that I’m sure those who have read other series can enjoy! I’ve heard of Legend of Vox Machina (my brother loves it) and Critical Role (Matthew Mercer is *chef’s kiss* ) and they both seem interesting! I actually would love to get into Delicious in Dungeon *small whisper* maybe once I’m finished with Berserk, so let’s keep that on the back burner for now! ;) Thank you for the comment and kind words! I’m definitely excited for the final reaction and sad that this series will be on hiatus for now. It’s been a fun ride!! And it’s definitely encouraged me to look into more high fantasy for the future!

Romaniablack

Yesss, I agree 100% with your comment about character development! It's so good! I agree, several series could take from this one a lesson! I agree, too, about the passage of time -- thank you so much for the comment and kind words! I honestly am really sad this series is caught up and I cannot WAIT for season 2 -- it's going to be a BLAST, I can already tell!

Romaniablack

Daddy Denken does what he PLEASES! And Himmel -- that ONE encounter set the trajectory for his entire future. People do strange things when they're in love, eh? ;) Thank you so much for the comment!

Romaniablack

I felt bad for Lernen, Serie didn't need to go that hard on him. And as you alluded to, if you have trained your student for over 50 years and he isn't up to your standard, perhaps some self reflection is in order? Serie is interesting and i'm not sure i've got a handle on her yet, but her clashes with Frieren are entertaining. Hmm wait, if Serie can just intuit who's fit for first class aren't all these tests unnecessary? Guess she just rather sits in her grimoire cave then conduct interviews with lowly humans every now and then. The reveal that Himmel meet Frieren when he was a small child is very cute at first but when i think about it she really did screw up his whole sexual development, really cemented herself in his mind. When he grew up he went around until he found her again, put all the moves he could muster on her (to no avail... well atleast while alive) for 10 years and then patiently waited for her for 50 years so he could peacefully die after meeting her one last time. He really couldn't picture someone else after that meeting with that cold elf in the forest. Poor Himmel... although it led them to saving the world from the Demon King, so i guess he just had to take one for the team... meaning all of humanity.

Christopher Pettersson

How pissed is the Demon King that he's dead now because a little kid was shown some flowers by his crush. Perhaps not the most powerful but definitely the most important single spell in history; a spell that changed the fate of the world, I wonder if Serie could cast something of that scale. Also, Frieren and Himmel give new meaning to the concept of 'from cradle to grave'.

The things with Serie is that i think a lot of people underastimate her view on things and think its only jealousy/or biased and because its frieren in the interview and we saw her fight in the exam a lot of people in reaction have rejected Serie's view on Frieren but the thing is she is mainly right, Serie say Frieren is relatively unskilled for her AGE important to accentuate on the age part, when you said "does she understimate Frieren ?" well the answer is no and we saw it in previous episode, Frieren after Flamme died sort of abandonned the idea to fight the demon king that's what she said to himmel, and we saw in flashback the only thing she really trained for in those 900 years between Flamme death and Himmel's encounter was restraining her mana, that's the only thing we saw her do and like she said episode 2 she said she used to live more apathically before so its not that far fetch to think that frieren has not learn has much has she could have. And im not saying that to diminish frieren's effort or work but in Serie's view in 900 years Frieren could have trained a lot more and not only her restriction its such a huge piece of time, so yes Frieren is relatively unskilled for her AGE but in general compared to other she is very skilled, that's what Serie means and Serie being much more powerful than frieren like showed in this episode with her mana pool and being an elf makes her pretty legitimate to speak about and understand frieren's power. Now for the part as to why she refused frieren, well there is part of what i said before i think but most of all a huge part of it is pretty mush what she said about Frieren not imagining being a first class mage because she though that Serie would never pass her and the main reason is that Frieren is not the type of mage Serie wants, Frieren said it before the interview "Serie intuition is always RIGHT and i've not become the mage she wishes me to be." so Serie is pretty mush right, Frieren is not the type of mage that could or wants to be first class and again its not really a power issue but more of a mentality thing/ a state of mind ( and i dont mean that frieren's state of mind is wrong either just different ) , now there is also Serie's feelings about the whole thing but i really like to emphasize the "Serie intuition is always right" Frieren said it twice this episode and we saw it with Fern. Now that's something we talked about in Natsume a little about the Natori and Natsume debate and the thing about not having the same view but the two can be valid. I saw a lot of people disliking Serie because her view of thing is different from Frieren and some people diabolised her and im not agreeing with this people, Serie and Frieren are very different people the first time it has showed to us was with flamme, when flamme explained that Frieren could defeat the demon king but that her ( flame herself ) and serie could not and its not because of a power issue, its just because flamme and Serie could not imagine themselve in an era of peace, they are battle mages, Serie likes to fight she couldn't imagine herself bringing a era of peace, Serie is a pretty neutral person from what we saw of her, she is not evil and she is not the most gentle person either, she is pretty grounded ( dont know if that the word im searching for its not my first language ). Now even if frieren and serie does not have the same view on magie they do not try to fight over it like in a lot of manga, sure they can argue in a discussion like with flower spell but that's all. Also i think Serie is pretty aware of her feelings, yes she do the contrary of what she says ( like critizasing the flowers spell while being surrounded by a flower garden she probabbly did for herself ) but i think its a coping mechanisms most of all, she knows her feelings but doesn't want to acknowledge them, witch is different from frieren that tries to understand her feelings and embrace them. Now yes Serie has flaws ( like everyone ) and a lot she is a little petty and can be a little childish when she talk about frieren with the other mages saying its all her fault for the exam hahaha. I needed to talk about Serie because i think she is facinating and a lot of people just saw her as a jealous and petty person and that's all, it saddens me a little because there is so much more about her and all it takes is paying attentions at what she says and does in this season and at what frieren says. ( sorry for my english )

Kaku 💫

I loved how half the episode is mostly just Frieren and Serie trolling each other in the interview and Serie being a bit jealous of Frieren. Frieren not even caring for a second that Serie fails her, just walks right out. Did I miss somewhere where you started to ship these two? Haha, because the signs are there, probably! No, you've definitely suggested it once or twice, I'm sure! Serie calling out Frieren's efforts of spending thousands of years on concealing her mana a wasted effort that would be far better spent on other more useful magic for battle - well if that isn't the pot calling the kettle black. Serie also (in jealousy?) has been concealing her mana and has been disappointed no one until Fern has been able to notice. So why Serie are you so quick to call Frieren out for doing the same thing you yourself do constantly? On a power scale though, if you consider the size of Serie's concealed mana they show as she leaves the room of 1st class mages to head to her interview... hard to imagine what her unconcealed pool of mana would look like, more of an ocean than a pool! As far as the series being an intro to high fantasy / D&D for someone, it definitely has a very approachable and grounded set of systems that work as that. But when you look at it from the other direction - as an entry into a field of stories I've heard many times before - Frieren still holds its own, perfectly. Very few series are as good, and too often most that try high fantasy are isekai with some pretty major trappings/disturbing fan service, like Sword Art Online or Mushoku Tensei (both are pretty ick). Or with Record of Lodoss War (the 13 episode OVA), a fun 90s anime that is super D&D influenced, it is almost too generic and by the book, although still has some of that 90s charm to it, but some issues not unlike Berserk. The Legend of Vox Machina is a more modern series - actually a kickstarted conversion of a Critical Role D&D adventure (Critical Role being a group of excellent, professional VAs who play/post D&D sessions online, which is interesting because you have the same VAs in the show as you do in the D&D gaming sessions) - so a story that moved from table top to streaming on Prime on a screen. It's actually very good too, and you'd probably enjoy it, lots of shipping, different genders and races, and all sorts of fun stuff and it carries a pretty heavy M rating to it too for better and worse. Or something a bit more relevant at the moment - like Delicious in Dungeon, that is a great choice, grounded a bit in high fantasy, with a woman mangaka so you know it'll be good and fresh! Thank you for the reaction, just one left! Hope to see you jump to another semi-high fantasy anime one day, Frieren's been a lot of fun!

Gigachad Denken: Went to the shop, flame Richter, take out things and didnt put it back, bought nothing, refuse to elaborate, leave. Also every time I see this Himmel flashback I find it so funny. Himmel was lost, Frieren made flowers , said nothing, pointed, and left Himmel to navigate the forest all alone.

The attention to detail in Frieren shows up with character development and time. Even with all the new characters added with the mage exams, they still are able to develop the character in such a way that you get to know them and enjoy them. So many series could learn a lesson from Frieren in that regard. And Time, you mentioned it previously and in this episode, the show handles everything about time so well. Whether its handing the "simple" passage of time with montages in various episodes or handling how each character perceives the passage of time, it is handled in such a delicate and intelligent way. I just wanted to say that I have really enjoyed rewatching Frieren with your reactionS. When the show ended, I felt a certain let down it was over but rewatching it with you has helped me enjoy it all over again.
