I am so sad that I'm caught up now because this series has been so much fun and I've enjoyed each and every episode! This was no exception!

Seeing the connections through the season, the humor, and all the possible potential for season 2 -- it's going to be a long wait, but worth it I'm sure! I hope you all enjoy the reaction and I can't wait to hear your thoughts of the finale!

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End! Episode 28 FULL LENGTH Reaction!

Comments

Yeah...Oda's been writing since 1999 with the series, I believe - I've been reading consistently since around 2003-ish -- but yes, the live action is a fun romp and does a good job of abridging the first "arc" of the story. Oda has some involvement with it, which helps, too!

Romaniablack

Yeah, isn't it One Piece that have over a thousand episodes? I've heard people liking the live action one, so if i dive in it will have to be that one. 😜

Christopher Pettersson

Ahhh, sorry, I definitely recommend One Piece for a fun time, though the live action series may be more digestible than the many-years-long manga and anime, haha! But yeah, Methode is a mystery -- maybe she's pansexual and just into cute people? Maybe she's elfsexual - in which case, Kraft, watch out!

Romaniablack

Well i haven't seen One Piece so don't know what that means (i'll just have to imagine something) but Sein would be a fool not to. All we've seen is Methode getting a bit hands on with Frieren, getting Fern all jealous (sure, in no way romantic jealousy, but still) and her commenting on Serie's cuteness. In no way definitive proof of her batting for the other team, but certainly nothing pointing the other way.

Christopher Pettersson

Hahaha, I feel Methode at least LOOKS the "older woman" part - like how he said even though Frieren WAS old, she didn't "look" it - I think Methode could work, and I need to see him be all One Piece Sanji about her! :P But yes, the ultimate cruel irony would be if she wasn't into men....

Romaniablack

Ok now i need the Sein and Methode met up, the corrupt priest and the reserved yet forward (and flirty?) mage, could make for a fun dynamic. But is she old enough? 😉 well Sein just needs to broaden his horizons... although we have no indication she is interested in men.

Christopher Pettersson

Thank you so much for the comment and the kind words! And YES, I really have enjoyed this series and can't wait for season 2 whenever it comes! And yes, this was one of my first forays into fantasy like this but it was a lot of fun as well! We were Himmel! YES! :D And yes, I'm definitely putting Dungeon Meshi on my fall schedule! I'm excited to get to it! Thanks for the support!

Romaniablack

Thank you so much for the comment and kind words! This series has beena. JOY to watch! And yesssss, if they started S2 with a mini-arc of the demon king being taken down like they did with the JJK mini arc? Would be ALL about it! But yes, agreed; I'll take what I can get and I'm SO eager for more Frieren crumbs when we get to it! Thank you again!

Thoroughly enjoyed rewatching this wonderful show with you, I really felt it too when at the end you said it's going to be one you're remember for a long time :') To be honest, before seeing Frieren, I also hadn't dabbled much if at all into fantasy anime and I don't really play games either so stuff life 'raiding a dungeon' or 'mana' or 'falling for mimics' I had barely heard of it before. Yet, it's what made all of this so fun; discovering this world as the Great, the Brave, the Unrivaled Himmel would! It's not only our trio but us watchers too who went on a journey, and what a marvellous journey it was! And the best part is... it continues! (as seen at the very end of the episode) I can't wait to see what our characters are up to in season 2! Also, if I had to recommand an equally wholesome yet intriguing show for you to watch, I'd definitely say 'Dungeon Meshi'! I think you'd have just as much of a great time reacting to it :D

Right?! I am definitely being selfish wanting more when we got 4 more episodes than some “regular” seasons, but still - I would always welcome more Frieren! We were pretty spoiled, though. Land’s ability is INSANE! He passed that exam via Zoom! Maybe it’s a good thing Ubel may be distracted for all time with Land - Land, it’s for the sake of humanity! Keep her chasing you! I am really curious how they’re going to tie the characters together in the future - BUT - there’s definitely a chance that these characters may meet each other, Kraft, Seien, new characters, etc. that there’s lots of possibilities and potential, and I’m really excited about that! I agree that Ubel and Land, Denken and Richter/Laufen, would be up there and probably Wirbel and Ehre, as well! I would love to see Methode again, but I honestly don’t know about her either – unless they use humor with her and Seien (especially with Seien missing his chance to meet her if he’d travelled with Frieren). And yes, Kraft! I really am fascinated by Kraft’s potential and I feel he would NEED to meet with Sein in the future! I agree, this season came full-circle so well! Himmel’s headspace with Frieren almost got me too! I can’t believe Originally, I didn’t get the “ship” and now I’m 1000% for it. Funny how a season can change your opinions! Thank you for the comment and kind words with this series!

Thank you so much for your reactions! It's been such a pleasure to re-watch alongside and get all the discussion. From the other week when you were talking about getting a flashback of the battle with the original party taking down the Demon King, I 100% agree! I could even do a chnage of pace 5-episode mini arc of it, kinda like the first 5 epsiodes of JJK S2. But we'll take whatever we can get haha. Going to keep it brief today, but look forward to seeing more Frieren once it releases again in the future!

It's SUCH a great reveal with Land! I love that Ubel will likely be on a quest to find the "real" Land now! :P Good for her! Sad for him! But yes, tracking and teleportation - I need it to happen! And Blondie as the wedding song is perfection! Methode DOES seem to have a quiet affinity for Elves, and they seem receptive, so YES, that may be a point to consider! No unsupervised Elven contact for Methode! I love her and Serie's "test" here! Honestly, Fern made good with that spell choice! I love it! Instant mood lifter! Himmel's love for Frieren coming full circle in this episode was so sweet! I love it -- And I do appreciate how important ALL of the characters in Frieren's party - past and present - still have such an impact on the story! Thank you so much for the comment! I will be eagerly awaiting season 2 of this series when it finally comes around! :D

The theme surrounding the flower spell has been so endearing and beautiful this season! I agree, the ending worked so well for this season and I love a good full-circle moment! And seeing how Frieren's thoughts on the world "Changing" tie back to Himmel from episode 1? So good! And yes, the little bits with Wirbel and Denken were nice as well -- and the Land surprise was one of the best all season! Such a fun twist! Poor Ubel, hahaha, she's going to track him down, now -- maybe that's better for the world that she's distracted by Land! Like Alex said, I can distinctly see a similarity with Frieren and Violet Evergarden! I definitely am glad that Frieren has more content to be adapted, whenever it can be, and I'm sure with its success that the studio will likely be receptive. We can only hope! But thank you so much for the comment, kind words, the sound track info, and for following me on the Frieren train! I will sorely miss it week to week!

Romaniablack

Also, Evan Call did the soundtrack for both anime, which only helps with the similar feel.

It's hard to complain when we got a 28 episode season but i'm really gonna miss this show, it has definitely shot up as one of my favourite anime ever. I figured some they waited for to reveal this episode would pass but perhaps not that they all would, but it makes sense it seems they all have what it takes for first class. Now Land's ability seems even more powerful, he managed to become a 1st class mage while just sitting at home sipping tea... yeah if Übel ever gets that power their might be trouble. And if the reason she hasn't been able to sympathize with him is because she hasn't actually met the real him... we might just need him to stay hidden and out of sight. 😜 It seems like they set up that we will meet all these new 1st class mages (and some of their companions) again but it seems like they all went in different directions with different goals in mind. So i wonder how they would meet up with all these characters again, if i had to rank how likely it was for them to show up again i would put Übel at the top (and therefore also Land), they have set up to much about her being potential trouble. After that probably Denken with his backstory and with him is also heading north. Wirbel probably also have business up north with his village so he would be next. Methode we didn't really get much with so i guess i'll place her last, but i do hope we see more of her and learn a bit more about her backstory and potential wants and goals. Of course we also have other characters like Sein and Kraft. It seems Kraft is hanging about so him we could run into and it would be a crime to never see Sein again. The season had a perfect ending with Himmel almost moving me to tears again, sweet medieval fantasy jesus, isn't that what this show is all about?

Christopher Pettersson

There's quite a bit of common in between Violet & Frieren isn't it? 'Kudere yearns for a love that can't be and learns to appreciate the bonds people form with each other' is a theme I'll always be a sucker for.

Alex Kornejo

How nice, it's a medieval fantasy but Land still managed to land a WFH arrangement. "Not even Ubel noticed" probably the reason why she can't figure out his skill, she's been looking at the wrong place. Seeing how she acts around both Frieren & Serie, Methode probably shouldn't be allowed near elves unsupervised. Just imagine feel of hiking in sweaty muddy clothes with wet socks inside your shoes, and the instant mood upgrade that is being able to change into a fresh set of clothes. They’re trekking across a continent on foot, so honestly, having a spell that allows for a clean set of clothes anytime you need them is such an enlightened choice by Fern. She already has her spam attack and Zoltraak for the kill shots, any other attack spell would just add complexity which its not her style so she would end up never using it anyway. Your idea of Ubel getting a tracking spell and Land getting a teleportation spell is hilarious, I want that spin off. Blondie’s ‘one way or another’ will be their wedding song. And of course we end the season with Himmel telling us ‘till next time’. It’s funny how much him and the rest of the original party members matter in the story, when the fist episode seemed like they were going to be placeholder characters until we met the show’s real party.

Alex Kornejo

In my comment for the last episode, I wanted to say that "Now you know the full story of the flower spell", but I remembered that there was a smidge more to do with the field of flowers spell. I loved how that simple, sweet spell was intertwined through the entire story. I thought the ending was perfect for the season. I loved how it circled back to the emotion of the very first first episode where Himmel was happy as an old man to go through that final adventure. Even though he was old and dying, he died happy and with a smile without a real "goodbye" so he lived up to how he had said goodbye his entire life. I also enjoyed getting a bit more back story on Denken and Wirbel too in this episode. Also, Land was a small surprise that he never really came to the city at all. That caught me off guard. I will finish to say that Frieren has tied for my favorite all time anime (with Violet Evergarden). They managed to make an anime season that was part of a larger story yet somehow feels to be in own complete story (not phrasing that well, but hope you know what I am trying to say). It did not leave me feel disappointed that there was not more , but, at the same time, it left me looking forward to more. To me, Frieren is the example of what happens when you get great story, great voice acting, great sound and great animation in a series and a studio that allows them the time to do their jobs at the best of their ability. I thoroughly enjoyed re-watching this anime with your reactions
