Suzume: Anime Movie Full Length Reaction! PATREON EXCLUSIVE!

 *DOOR-OPENING HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

Thank you, Patreon, for voting for this one! What a spectacle animation-wise!

Just the right dash of romance, sprint of action, dose of mythology, and presence of yet another white-cat-appearing-cute-voiced "antagonist" to make me have Madoka Magica flashbacks! This was a lot of fun to watch and I hope you enjoy the reaction, too!

Suzume: Anime Movie Full Length Reaction! PATREON EXCLUSIVE!

I am all about character development #1, so that style of movie works great for me! Oh yeah, and the idea of Suzume finding love for herself first and foremost was a great lesson! 🙂 It reminded me of in the show Drag Race, how the finalists get the chance to “address” their younger selves and what they would tell them - I instantly thought of that! It was a really beautiful moment to see Suzume get the chance to help herself heal and work through her trauma. And yes, the relationship between Suzume and her aunt and how it developed was really sweet! The comedic timing in this movie was really well done - I love how all the characters engaged with one another, especially in the moments you brought up. I could see that about Saijin just heightening emotions in the moment; I wish we’d gotten more with the grandfather and how he knew about all of this, but it leaves it up to our own interpretation fairly well. Thank you for the comment and kind words! I’m super excited to see the movie for September and hope it’s as much fun as this one!

Hahahaha, it's one of those red flags: Don't let cat-like creatures convince you to hep them! Bad things happen!! I honestly have only felt the tiniest of earthquakes, so I cannot imagine ones like this! Thank you for the comment and kind words! This movie's visuals were stunning! I loved watching Suzume work through some of her unresolved trauma while making new friends and solidifying her relationship with her aunt! And yes, excited for the next movie as well!

I LOVED the soundtrack of this movie! It was so good! Honestly, I like a series that has a lot of pairing options and this one definitely had that! And wow, that would have been interesting if they'd went the Yuri (GL) route with the movie -- I liked the characters and their relationships throughout enough but that would have been interesting to see that "version" of it! Thank you so much for the comment!

Makoto Shinkai movies are a lot more character driven than plot heavy, yeah, even though there are some very interesting, and specific plots in each of them. He's got to be one of my favorite directors, though! What stunned me the most about this movie is how, in the end, if there is a love story worth talking about is Suzume's with, for lack of a better explanation, herself. The way that the reveal that the one that had helped little Suzume was older Suzume hit me was not even funny; because after all the shenanigans and longing this whole journey was so that Suzume learned to come into her own and rely on herself and heal that little girl inside herself that was still so scared and hurt and lost. I think that is terribly beautiful. There's also the love between the aunt and Suzume, of course, that is a different kind of love as well but so touching. I gotta love the comedic details, though! Daijin running away after cursing (?) Souta and chair!Souta running after him with Suzume closing the chase after the both of them will never fail to make me laugh; comedic gold, right there. And then there's the scene right by the end with Suzume being the main focus, she is saving Souta and having this intense emotional moment with him and then, as if it was nothing impressive, nothing of note we have Saijin fighting against the worm in the background in this flashy, Kaiju-esque battle that in any other movie would have been the focus of the moment, or at the very least would have shared the focus XD I love it for how unrepentant it was about that. My take on Saijin just appearing and heightening the aunt's emotions is that that's its deal. Like, this movie is about emotions and healing and growing into your own and as far as I can tell Daijin was all about attachment, what with wanting to stay with Suzume and all; Saijin, on the other hand, was probably about the things left to fester and unsaid that just burden you. Both are halves of the same coin, in the end, and you need to deal with both of them before being able to heal and start moving forward after trauma. In any case, I do like to think that they are two sides of the same coin, and are probably linked because of that and thus Saijin just appears there *lol* Just, I liked this movie so much the first time I watched and I knew I had to see your reaction to it. And I get to revisit it with you, so it was a super fun time :D

Ah, thank you so much! I really appreciate the comment and kind words! Ooohhhhh, I didn't realize that about Serizawa's VA; that's great! That's really cool to get VA's that are idols and not the "norm" -- thank you for pointing that out and I can't wait for future movies on the channel!

Madoka's Kyubey definitely was beckoned from the first meeting with Daijin, I think I'm beginning to understand a pattern of what occurs when we turn cats into gods and grant them speech. Chaos, and despair! Earthquakes sure are frightening, hard to imagine the horror, having only experienced a couple of ~3.0 tremors which rattle buildings / desks. Enjoyed your reaction, and what a great movie for the eyes, so many great visual sequences in the movie and I enjoyed seeing our Suzume have a journey where she gets to find her own path in life and befriends some interesting strangers. Looking forward to the next movie!

The music in this movie is so very catchy, I found myself humming and singing the main theme all the way to the car when I saw this in theatres. All things considering I liked how the romance elements were handled problematic age gaps aside. Ambiguous enough that if you liked the pairing it's an easy ship, and if it felt icky easy enough to ignore/see it as platonic. I found myself almost more invested in the side stories with the orange girl and the bar owner mom with what little screen time they had. I read an interview by Ruben Baron with the director, Makoto Shinkai, that the story had almost been a lesbian romance rather than boy meets girl which would have been a big switch up from his earlier works such as Your Name.

Love your reaction! This movie is my favorite movie that is made by Makoto shinkai. Serizawa's va is actually voiced Taki from previous Makoto shinkai's movie your name! And most of the main cast of suzume movie are actors and idol! They are not majoring as va. I'm glad that you enjoyed movie!!
